Weird issue this morning...

Sitting in the Sky in my garage getting ready to head to work, pushed the clutch in and started it, put it into reverse, and as I began to slowly let the clutch out I heard a clang (like two gears slapping together) from the pumpkin. Quickly pushed the clutch back in and tried it again, no clang. Pushed the clutch back in and put it in 1st and let the clutch out slowly again, no clang, then into reverse again, no clang, and no issue driving to work either, no whine, no abnormal sound and no more clanging. It was just the single occurrence. Last drove it on Thursday with no issues and none before. I have about 23k on the odo and no clutch slippage.

By "pumpkin" do you mean drive axle? Do you have an RL or an NA?

That mostly eliminates windup of the axle, although it is possible that the torque bar is loose. Unlikely, since it has only happened once.

I would get the car up in the air and check everything you can get to for loose.
>Propeller shaft bolts and joints
>Torque bar
>Axle mount
>Axle shaft bolts and joints

I have an axle shaft CV joint failing, but it makes more of a loud click.

Was there anything unique about your last entry to the garage? Something that got bound up and just relaxed?

Thanks, I'll get it up on the quickjack and check it out. No unique entry and I know it's an abomination for owner's of Sky's and Kappas in general , but I've never dumped the clutch in 1st, though I have chirped the tires in second a number of times, and I'm not an aggressive driver. So I'm not sure what could have precipitated the issue. We'll see what happens tonight on my way home.

It could have been a fluke that will never reoccur.

Your clank may differ from my clank but sometimes I have a brake pad stick and it will make a pop noise...I guess that may be a mini-clank in some books. The fact that it didn't re-occur is encouraging.

If it makes you feel any better, a few years ago I was accelerating foot hard down, and as I reached redline in fourth gear, there was an incredible, violent vibration. I was sure that the driveshaft was going to come apart or a tire was going to blow or something--it never happened again, I never found evidence of a fault, and it's been fine since.

Sometimes strange things happen.
