Started unhooking the pressure lines for a new catch can install.
While at that, started scoping out the turbo and reading up online and in the books. Started seeing a little smoke over the Winter, esp after running for a little bit and when at idle can make some small clouds. Have heard no big bangs or other weirdness so guessing oil is getting out through the turbo, maybe not draining well or something. No oil spots, but got a small bit of oil off the bottom of the turbo in the middle (need to take a better look). Car was down a bit on oil, but not certain how much may have been burned and/or maybe the oil guys shorted me a bit at my last change.
Only have about 40K and gets driven two, three times a month, so spirited driving only every now and then.

Guessing maybe oil is not draining properly (drain gummed?) or something else is off, but thinking I may end up pulling the turbo out before I'm done, although that won't be for a week plus. Of course, it's time for emissions, so can't let it wait too long. :P

Based on advice from Dave (Werks) at NASSAM, I had the valves cleaned in Fort Worth via walnut shell blasting. They sent me before and after pics:

Valve caking is common on all DI engines like the LNF (Redline), apparently, since the cleaners in the fuel doesn’t flow through the valves.

Put the short shift kit in today. makes a difference but is still a bit stiff. Finished up lubing my rubber. I think I am done with mods for the summer. I will put in a new head unit over the winter.

LOL, I am thinking that last post is boardering on obscene. So easy to take it all wrong, I guess I am just bad. Hilarious post if that was the intention, if not please don't be offended, as you had me rolling on the floor.

I have had the short shifter for a couple of years now. I agree it makes a huge amount of difference, but lunatic fringe is correct the shifting is a little stiff although it does get better with time. Just my thoughts...Ö

Glad I made you laugh. I reread it before i posted it and thought about fixing it but I figured what the hell. I laughed and I thought someone else might get a kick out of it too.

Taking the donor car down for smog check, so it could be used until its death date (Late December) Need to get the title changed. Also the Opel GT tail lights arrived today, so may try to put them on the yellow car.

Put on the stock K04 heat shield on my 2.4 turbo. Had to repair some melted wastegate solenoid wiring since it got too close to the turbo when our temps were 120...uhg. Had to remove about 4" of wire because the insulation was hard and brittle from the heat.

Drove the yellow car down to Hemet this morning. Nice easy drive, with some high speed corners if the Chps don't catch you. Car is running pretty good, plan to do the final tuning in a couple of weeks. Have not decided on the Opel GT tail lights going in the car. I like the black out look and don't thing it is right to black out the Opel lights. May save them for the trailer or just put them away.

Body color calipers

I painted the calipers, brackets and rotor hubs yellow to match the car color looks great! (My opinion).

Make it a good day.
