Exhaust Leak

Hello, New member here. Bought a 2008 Redline a few weeks ago. I can hear an exhaust leak by the manifold so I suspect the gasket. Any tips or tricks i should be aware of as I replace it? BTW I plan to get the DDM PowerPack out and Solo high flow cat while I'm at it.

No real tips but be sure all your manifold nuts are there. They are supposed to be one use only but others have reused them without issues. You will want to get gaskets for the turbo downpipe and the turbo to manifold sections just to be safe.

Also, look up the Solo performance video on installing their high flow cat. There is a trick to getting the stock cat out of the car that you need to know. Basically, you have to twist it 180 degrees (towards the engine) while you lower it out of the car after you've taken all the bolts off. The video helps explain this better.

Thanks Robotech, I plan to get new manifold nuts and the cat comes with the gasket to the turbo.

So I tore apart the Redline and found a few issues I was not aware of.

First, when I took the plastic engine cover off I found some Junkyard writing on the head "07 Soltice 2.0" meaning either the the engine or at least the head has been replaced with Pontiac parts. On the positive side the engine may not actually have 158,000 miles on it but who knows.

Second, whoever put the turbo back on really did a halfass job by using bolts with washers stacked in place of two of the studs. Turns out this was part of the leak I was hearing. Also the turbo has a lot of play in the compressor wheel.

Last, the exhaust manifold is cracked and there was a leak at the manifold gasket as I originally thought.

Remedy - I ordered a big wheel turbo, charge pipes and Stage 3 tune from RPM Motorsports, exhaust manifold plus all new gaskets and studs from GM Parts Direct and high flow cat from Solo.

The turbo arrived this week but waiting on the rest of the parts so I can start putting it back together next weekend, hopefully.

Depending on where the crack was on the exhaust manifold may be totally normal. They all develop a crack across the twin scroll divider in the outlet of the manifold.

Everything else sounds like you found your problem. The Solstice 2.0 Turbo is the same engine in the Sky. Not so much Pontiac vs Saturn parts but GM vs GM parts.
