Ice Racing 2008 Saturn Sky Redline

Hello everyone! I’ve decided to put a full cage in my car and race a non street legal class. I have an unusual question. I have to put 15 inch wheels maximum in order to race In the class with the only available ice tires our club can get.

What can I do to get 15” wheels on the car. Anything from running a spacer and a widebody, to changing the brakes to a smaller setup from an older Saab or something. The tires are tall so I’m not worried about any car clearance issues.

Any speed shop guys in here or custom fab shops with any input? Thank you! Much appreciated.

I don't know of anyone putting that small of a wheel on our cars. ANYTHING can be done but in addition to brake clearance you may need to worry about suspension component clearance too.

There is a gentleman on Facebook (name escapes me) who put a Twin Turbo LS7 in his Sky. I know he was looking at running smaller wheels to get a tire on the car with a bigger sidewall to give him some sidewall flex for launching that monster on the strip. You may want to find him on FB and see what he has found out.

I'm recalling a 2007 LS7 FORCE 5 (engine cover, IIRC) that auctioned on Barrett-Jackson, I think at the 2016 January auction for just under $30k hammer price. There was a post on this forum from a person that acknowledged to being a cousin of the buyer. The request was about tires that would keep the car FROM breaking traction in fourth gear. At the time it seemed the LS7 owner lived around the Southern IL town of Joliet, iL. Last I remember, with the NASSAM2016 in Springdale, AK, the owner didn't appear to be able to attend the National event. IIRC, the LS7 seller was a museum owner along the California coast South of LA, maybe in Newport Beach. ??

Don't know if this info has anything to do with the LS7 owner mentioned in FB above or not. I would say though that the LS7 I mentioned above is the only one I've ever heard of or read about a SKY having an LS7 installed.
