Not Another CAI Thread!!!!

Hey guys.

I know this has been beat to death on here and I have read all the threads.

Martin is about to Tune all my Stage 3 work and I want to make sure everything is the way I want it before he sets the tune. I had his CAI installed and was not a fan of the air sucking sound you could hear constantly. That's not the sound I want from my little Sky. Maybe a muscle V8 but not my little 4 cylinder. I put the factory air box back in and much prefer the quiet lack of vacuum sound. I even bought the K&N filter for the factory airbox, but didn't like that sound either. I have read on here that engine HP isn't helped by putting a CAI on the redline.

My question is:

With the Upgraded Larger Wheel Turbo, am I going to be loosing any HP possibility by running the factory airbox and filter rather than a CAI?

With the 2.4 there is some improvement in low and mid range power with the GMPP CAI installed...I've seen that on a dyno graph.

I have NOT seen any dyno graph on a bone stock Redline/GXP with a before and after CAI pull to compare the two. Doesn't mean they're not out there, I just haven't seen one. From what I remember in the early days of the platform, those who were doing dyno tests were not seeing any peak WHP gains from putting a CAI on the 2.0 turbo engine.

IF you're giving up power by using the stock air box, I'd bet it is marginal and won't be missed...though really I don't think there is any difference.

Noise maker, nothing more. Actually hurt engine performance on FJ Cruiser, well that and going to a larger exhaust system.

I have them on both of my Redlines, only because the GMPP one looks kind of cool. The others just look like a tube and K&N filter stuck on the end look okay. The only purpose they serve is to dress up the engine compartment. Change the sound a little, but for me it does get irritating too. My 2.4 will have the stock air box on it without question.
