Maiden Voyage on sailboat

Well, after 2 months of staining wood, painting the bottom of the hull, polishing the boat, etc I got to launch the oldy but goody this tuesday. A friend from high school and skiing buddy came down and we checked everything out and took it out for a sail. The wind was strong (15 knots) so we only used the mainsail. Did a easy 5 knots. Everything worked fine. If you consider that the anchor fell off the catches and we had to get it back up on the boat, hit a sandbar (Barnaget bay is very shallow and I have a fixed keel) but backed off it. Everything stayed high and dry. Now for some nice weather. Maybe next week. Here's pictures of the voyage.

Ain't nothing in the world like being out there is it. Totally different world out there. AFter living on my yacht for a year I bought my home on the water here on the OBX but I'll never forget thoes memorys of living aboard and the fantastic people I met in transit during the fall headed towards Fla then back up in the summer. Had a sign on the back of my yacht "Will work for food" Use to install everyones electronics at the marina for a cookout and drinks and a sit in on the docks. Some of the finest people I ever met and we still e mail and they send pictures. Congrads on the first voyage. Now start thinking about that transit voyage down the intercoastal. Dockage is free if you ever make it this far. We can talk about the skys.

Nice, Bill! Let me know when to send SHiNY down to work as a deckhand so she can earn me a cruise!

Bill:

Is that a Catalina? Sold my 27’ Catalina about 10 years ago and I still miss that old boat/friend. I’m jealous in any event.

Anyone can turn a key and go boating, real men go sailing and are called sailors!! May you have fair winds and following seas.
