The ZII looks like a newer version. Mine were "Direzza Star Spec" without the "ZII". Same tread pattern. Maybe I had "Z1"?

I was wondering why you wanted the 245 40 R18 instead of 245 45 R18? Apparently Dunlop doesn't make the 45's anymore. I guess that the 40's would be OK. I've never seen anybody go down in Aspect Ratio unless they were also going UP in dia.

The tires that you currently have are a cheap Chinese tire. I would replace them as soon as finances permit.

I keep debating about that but from what I've heard, you can do that in SCCA Solo (going down slightly in Aspect ratio) and still be within stock rules but you can't go up in wheel size...I may be wrong but that's my understanding. I know my current tires are cheap Chinese crap, hence why I say changing tires will probably make a big difference. But for every day driving, they're fine. I'd rather wear out $89 tires commuting than $250 tires. So I'll be getting a second set of wheels. LOL

I agree with you but I'm not squealing with these tires. The only time the tires made a sound is when I screwed up and blew the line. (Focus, focus, focus...look ahead ya mook!!!) I'm very realistic about my driving and the switch back turn at the far end of the track I never got perfectly right. I could make up a lot of time there. However, I also know that the tires I had were costing me time too. I was almost able to run the out leg on Saturday at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and once I got the switch back turn close on my last run of the day, I was almost able to run the return leg WOT too. With better tires, I have a feeling I would have been able to carry even more speed through those sections.

But it was still my line in the switch back that was costing me the most. Sunday I had a better time of it and my lap times showed it. Even on Saturday with the messed up line I was VERY consistent in my lap times with them getting slowly better and better.

That is my understanding also.

WOW!! I didn't notice the price of the Star Specs! I can't remember what I paid but I'm pretty sure it wasn't anywhere near that much, but that was back in 2010, IIRC.

BTW, my Star Specs lasted for about 33,000 mi. of city, hwy., and AXing.

Hmmm...33K huh? I may have to just try them out on my current wheels and see how it goes. I like that idea.

Yes, 33K, but they were really worn. There was only the faintest indication of a tread pattern left on them. Way past the wear bars.

Still not bad. I've worn a tire out...as in actually wore a hole in it. Through the steel belts, through all the rubber, through the cloth inside liner...hole...size of a dime. LOL Did that in 15K miles on my 92 Talon TSi...that thing ate tires like candy though.

So found a few more pictures. First...

And then some of the cars I was up against...

An RX8...this was from Saturday. He had a buddy come out Sunday in a blue one too.

Here is the class winner for both days and the overall winner for the whole competition. Man she was fast and clean.

The Focus guys. The dark one was really quick and the white one was driven by the owner of a header company...stock right off the lot with a tire change.

An RX7...never saw what he was running nor knew his name to find him on the standings.

A very quick S2000. He was #2 or #3 all weekend.

Never saw this car on the track, may have been with the group putting on the event.

This was a young driver from China. Good tires on this car too but he was only about .5 second quicker on the track.

Now some of the other cars that were at the event...some very unique autocrossers.

Crazy fast Station Wagon. He was all over the place but so much fun to watch. He eventually got it dialed in better and put down some decent times.

This was Yellow Elise's husband in a car he built himself. CF body and all. This was a real quick car.

This guy was in the exhibition class as they were a sponsor of the event. He went around this whole track mostly sideways...until his transmission broke on Sunday.

This was a 450 hp GTA that was putting down about the same times I was on Saturday. Not sure how she was doing Sunday as they left to go home early. Took a ride in it and boy it was a blast.

Couldn't find a picture of her but there was another Vette that was friends with this guy and the lady driving it had to be in her late 70s at least. She was fast too...top six driver on average all weekend.

550 hp Jag. Sounded mean as hell.

You know I got to thinking about tires and if I go with a 40 AR I'm dropping the car 1/2". I already have issues with it scrapping on things and if I raise the suspension back up you get that tire gap thing going on again...uhg. May wind up going with these.

Look like they may be an update of the RE-11s.

So found a couple more pictures from this site:
NMCA Hotchkis AutoCross Coverage

They have a ton of pictures there if you're interested in what else was on the track on Saturday. Here is a quick video too of what the track looked like. We ran this way on Saturday, opposite of this on Sunday.

Look like they may be an update of the RE-11s.
I don't know much about Bridgestones, but the RE-11A scored #1 in Tire Rack Ratings for "Extreme Performance Summer" tires.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=EP

And in their "Preview Report" the RE-71R vs. the RE-11A, the 71R's were better.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=198

The only obvious potential problem that I see is the UTQG Rating of 200 AA. They will grip like crazy but wear out real fast.

I hope that the above links work but they may not. Sometimes a link to a report or page of data at Tire Rack will just take you back to their Home Page.

I will do a search on that Yogi, thanks. The ZII Star Specs were a 200 A rated tire too I thought.
