@Kjelle69
@JohnWR

Today I received my SDM back from Airbag24

The start

SDM back in the car

Interior panels back in place

Seat back in place

The result (1)

The result (2)

After an hour of work, the SDM was placed in the car again with the result: no more error messages. After a used PPS that did not work well, a PPS modulator that did not work either, it seems that the modification of Airbag24 works fine.

Great news, and I am happy that you got fixed to your satisfaction.

I really do wish though that we could have seen the results with a known good PPS in your car, or with your PPS in a car that is not already showing a fault.

If you don't want them, and the shipping charges are not too great, I would pay to have them sent to me.

Hey, thats really great news @OmegaUser !!!

I guess that the seat belt reminder for the passenger now always will be off, how about the driver side seatbelt reminder?
Do Airbag24 leave some kind of guarantee that the Airbags will still work and that both of them are now always armed?
How much work was it to remove the rear panel behind the seats?

@JohnWR
I am also still wondering if the error has really been a non-working PPS. Everything points out but I would also like to know for sure. Thank you for your offer. My own PPS is still in the passenger seat in the car but I now have so much experience with dismantling the passenger seat, it is no problem to get the PPS out of it again . After your testing I also get to know the condition of the used PPS that I bought with the used pair of seats. Should it appear that the seller sold me a non-working PPS ...
I am going to find out what the shipping costs are to the USA of used goods and I let you know.

@Kjelle69
The driver seat belt reminder is still working.

Airbag24 tested the SDM for proper operation after the modification was performed. They always do that after modifications or repairs have been carried out. They guarantee this good operation. If you consider having this modification done by them, I advise you to contact them in advance. By phone they are currently poorly accessible but they respond to emails within a day.

Removing the interior panels is fairly easy. All panels are clicked and you can remove them without tools. I have removed all the interior parts within half an hour. The workshop manual is informative in this case.

Thanks @OmegaUser . Removing the PPS will change the shape of the seat, so you will probably want to get some 8-10mm thick dense foam to fill the space. Add that to the shipping cost.

I would think that the passenger seat belt reminder should always be on unless the seat belt is buckled, or did they do it the other way and make it always off?. The driver's seat belt reminder should work as normal, since it was not affected by the PPS failure.

As a side note I now got the refund from Airbag360 so it seems they are a legit company. I am sure their products may work in opther cars, maybe just did not manage to tackle the complexity of the Kappas SIR system.

After the modification by Airbag24 the passenger seat belt reminder is always off and the driver's seat belt reminder works as normal.
Today I sent you an PM about the shipping of the both PPS.

@Kjelle69
Nice that you also got your money back from Airbag360. It will indeed be a fair company and their airbag modulators will probably work well with other cars but unfortunately not with ours.

I am very curious if you have succeeded in repairing the PPS in the meantime? It would still be the best way to solve this problem.

@OmegaUser: Hi Walter. I picked up your eyecatching box today as I drove home from work. Both sensors gave a fault when I plugged them into the car, but I do not have time to do more tonight. I will have time during the weekend to use the Tech2 to confirm that they are actually bad.

Can't wait to see the results of this JohnWR. Are you tearing them apart too? If so, pictures please.

I am not planning to, but will do whatever non-destructive investigation that I can. I have an alternate use planned for them unless they turn out to just be un-calibrated, or something.

I hear ya. I just want to see if the damaged areas are consistent with what we've seen and if there are other damaged areas like we saw in your original example.

@JohnWR

Hi John,

Aha, I see you have received the "eyecatching" box. The first tests indeed show that there is something wrong with both PPS. Did you check this weekend with the Tech 2? In that case, I'm curious if both PPS gave the same error code (B008171) as with me when I tested them. Imagine that it would be a calibration error. I do not think so but in that case I could have saved myself a lot of trouble.

In my case, the modification of the ASM by Airbag24 is still working satisfactorily .

I hope to hear from you soon.

Greetings.

Walter (OmegaUser)

I have now tried the leitlack and sadly enough it did not work. The product in it self seems amazing with very low resistance, close to zero, but something else seems spooky with the sensor. We will try one more idea before sending the SIR unit to Airbag24 for modification.

@Kjelle69 Too bad that the repair of the PPS did not work.
I think it is now a good choice to opt for the modification by Airbag24. I still like it.
Keep in mind that Airbag24 is poorly accessible by telephone but respond to mail within a day.

Good luck!
