Exhaust modification for SOUND.

What is the best "noise" modification that you can make to the RedLine. I am NOT interested in performance.....,unless that just comes with it. I just want it to sound like the beast it is without swapping in a V10 or a 4 rotor Mazda. In its stock configuration it sounds like a wimp, my Lexus 430 sounds better.

On a convertible, the Solo Mach system adds mellow sound without any significant rap, the street/race might be more than you want. Maybe the Mach shorty? Ask some people with both systems how loud they think their cars are now. I have the Mach (couldn't go with the other kits as I own a coupe which has resonances your convert doesn't) and it suits me perfectly.

Do you want the sound for you or for those around you? I think the two can be quite different, as I have been on runs with people who thought their exhaust sounded great while those of us following them thought it sounded like crap.

The entire sound/exhaust note is subjective. “Loud” for one, is not the same for another.
That being said, I thought the factory exhaust was too quiet. Went for a Solo Race. It’s mellow under cruise, cracks and burbles under deceleration and wonderful under load.

The only time I find it “loud” is under cold start in the garage.

Note that the system sound different with a factory cat and a high flow cat.

Again, subjective. Get what you want and try not to piss off the neighbors.

It is still a 4cyl at the end of the day. If a 4rotor or v10 is anywhere near what you are shooting for, ypu should lower the expectation. As great as these cars are, the exhaust will always sound pretty lame.

My favorite exhaust note is a Flathead Ford through a pair of Glass Packs comming down from 5000 in gear.

Yes, the Sky has only half the cylinders, wrong firing order, an auto tranny, and an electronic fuel control system that wont feed the excess fuel the Stromburgs did to get that sound.

But that is what I always aim for. My Lexus LS430 has V8 and the right firing order......but the electronics tame the backfiring so its not quite there. But its more satisfying on accel than the Sky.

Answer to JohnWR, for myself and I am going deaf so it has to be loud. Dont give a s**t what others hear, I want to hear raw power like my '37 Ford PU that has a 500 cu in Caddy V8 from a 1970 El Dorado and Glass Packs.

I wasn't referring to "too loud" when I called the sound of most of the exhausts "crap". More like harsh, raspy and generally obnoxious.

John - was taken aback by your comment about who do you want to please as it had never occurred to me that anyone would want to please anyone but themselves, but your question was perfectly valid - I bet there are owners out there that are more concerned with it sounding good to spectators than to themselves!

Ghost - I agree that the Solo Street Race give a nice sound, just not sustainable in a coupe due to resonance. Anyone want to buy a custom street race with added resonators? The only way I found out about the resonance s buying a custom system and trying it....

You will never get a really great exhaust note out of a 4 cylinder engine, so the question is just how to end up with the best you can (my order of 'goodness' for exhaust notes is V12, I6, V8, V6, I4). In my experience the Solo product is the best around in terms of quality and follow up.

The problem is that it is really hard to evaluate what a particular system sounds like on an internet video clip...

Everyone knows I love my Magnaflow exhaust but like was said, sound is so subjective.

Yes. I dont understand why, when people are making those clips they dont try giving some sort of comparison, like maybe a 44 Magnum round. Just some human voices would be helpfull.

Its like ads for a "tiny whatever" and there isnt even a picture with something you recognise beside it???
