San Diego Service Shop

Anyone from San Diego county that knows of a Sky Redline friendly shop?... a shop that can safety perform a water pump and other technical work without damaging the vehicle?

The only shops I trust are either in Temecula (the GMC/Buick dealership...they have extensive experience with Kappas and First Place Auto...buddy of mine runs that one) or in Beaumont (Curtis at Pass Auto...works on my car and Skersfan's cars) but I would be happy to give you their info.

Just got off the line with the service manager Fred. He/wife owned one for 7 years, and is very aware of the service challenges, puck lifting, etc, of this car. They also match wallmart for tire prices. So... I'll try to get at least oil and tires today... to go on the Julian run, Sunday. Hopefully. Hehehe. Thank you..

I usually do all my own stuff, but time is my enemy. I'm also not getting any younger (nor wiser for that matter. Lol.)

Never had time for Facebook. Anyone know when and where the Julian trip starts this Sunday?

Thank you. I emailed them. Well... got the transmission flushed, cooling system flushed, oil changed. Got it smoged.

I so wanted to get tires, then I'd at least feel safe. The dealer couldn't get them in time before my prior commitments... called Costco, "We don't have pucks. We do have a puck like thing on out left. No, we don't have email to receive a picture."

American Tires/Discount Tire; no pucks.

My neighbor says she has pucks... but only after gaining 30 pounds (?!). No, I didn't go there.

Soooo, couldn't get it all done before Sunday 8:00 AM. Working Saturday. Busy tonight. Maybe next run "Shadow" will be ready.

All in all, Temecula Buick GMC did a good job. I smell a little radiator fluid, but that might be expected after a pressure flush.

They inspected the car. Didn't touch the tires... air or anything else... "They shouldn't be on the road. We can't touch 11 year old tires." I don't blame them one bit.

The only thing that they found wrong which was not really wrong, was the right front strut will eventually need to be replaced because there's a little dust on it that shows there might be some moisture but it is not actively leaking. The other thing was that they found a stain of the green or blue dye from the airconditioner like someone may have serviced it before a. Wasn't
serviced and so they said perhaps something was going on there. Other than that they said the car is great. I had them specifically listen for the water pump, and they said that they did not hear an issue with it. That is something very good.

That is correct Bill, and her husband, Eric, is the tall bearded guy. They are not size matched!

That's great news John, its great you got this all done so quickly.

If you needed something like the pucks I previously described, but quicker than ordering what I have described, you can actually get away with real hockey pucks from a sports store, just as long as they dont overlap to your bodywork and risk cracking the fenders etc. Hockey pucks are pretty damn strong and can take the pressure between the Sky and the floor jack. Obviously my recommendation is to use the real mccoy!

A lot of folks use hockey pucks with eyelets screwed into them to work just like the normal ones. I would have asked Paradise what they charge to do tires if you bring the tires. Might be an option.

Glad to hear they took care of you. It's a good shop.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. The search for a tire lift shop continues. Since Temecula Buick GMC is 30 min away, using them for an install won't work. But it was a good thought.

I'm going to have to educate my Discount Tire place so they get them and use them. Lol.

I'll try to get ties on Sunday.

Have a great day!

Best laid plans of mice and men... lol. I switched days off... to be off Sunday instead of Saturday. Was hoping to get ties before the Julian run. But alas... it's Sunday, and most tire shops are closed. DT is closed.

Looks like it's a "Spend the day with the wife" day...

Ironically, I if I had gotten tires, I could have just waited at the Via Rancho Parkway 15 exit for a stream of hot sport cars to go by on their way to Julian, and joined in.

Unless you're taking the path (Rancho Bernardo) that leads past the Blue "Sky" Ecological Reservation. Hahaha.

I didn't make it today either. Found my vac leak and its on the back side of the engine somewhere under the window trim. If I pressurize it enough I get an oil leak. Couldn't track it any further but will be looking next week. Leak sounds like someone giving you a raspberry. Good thing new engine is on the way.
