You do know that GM itself never produced these. IEE however should have maintained the tooling and equipment to make them for 10 years after the end of production, which shouldn't be until next year some time.

If you have yet to get the recall applied, make sure you reverse any seat mods before taking it in!

Funny thing, when I was doing my research for initially for my report, the first set of recalls I ran into dealt with the installation of seat heaters, seat slip on covers, and aftermarket seat covers. On in particular was a failure of the passenger mat to register a passenger after the factory cloth seat covers were replaced with dealer installed leather seat covers. This wasn't on the Kappa but on another GM vehicle...the Equinox I think? Can't remember as it's been almost three years ago.

Last year I asked about passenger seat sensor recall to GM US.
They explained me what should I do, then I contacted GM Japan office.
However Definitely they gave me their reply, but this mail say GMJ ignore your recall fix job because it’s only your car in all Japan.
So I want ask this site member what should I do? Now sensory still working. But I do not know when suddenly this issue happen to my car.

Sorry to hear that Gordon

I have an opposite side to tell. I had the recall done one year ago tomorrow. The repair failed about 3 months ago. I was not able to get the car to the dealership until today. GM has agreed to replace the whole system. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow morning and be installed. The tech that did it a year ago, said I was right, that it would fail. The only person to set in the seat was Robotech. And maybe a total of 100 miles. I am happy they are replacing the whole system, and the fact that I will have another year of warranty on the work done and part replaced. I was amazed they actually had the parts in LA.

Thanks to Robo, JohnWR and all the others that got this recall thru. But if you only got the tape version of the repair, I would watch it very carefully and test it often if you don't have passengers riding in the seat very often.

@skersfan
Thank you for very interesting topic.
But I would like ask you what’s your meanings “replace all system”?
I guess you replace passenger seat airbag sensor. Now your car passenger airbag system activate anytime, is this correct?

Glad they're getting you a new sensor. This was always my concern with their "fix" if you had a still functional sensor mat. I bet yours was already damaged when they put the tape on it but there is no way to tell without ruining the mat to verify and when I got in it, it finally failed.

While not certain, I have a feeling they are getting him a whole new sensor mat.

That was the statement from the tech and service writer. The service writer is the guy that convinced me to buy the car initially.
