Version 1 is mounted between the trunk lid and tulip panel (silver panel behind the head rests). It basically rests on some spindles that you install inside the trunk and is held in place by being sandwiched between the trunk lid and the panel.

Version 2 is mounted directly behind the seats, forward of the tulip panel. It is attached using an industrial strength velcro-type material.

Both versions should be able to be left in place with the top up, although version 1 requires you to put little clear rubber bumpers on either the rear window or the Wind Restrictor to make sure the WR doesn't damage the defroster or the top.

May be hard to tell in the pics, but here is a picture of a Version 1:

And this one is a Version 2:

Ahhhhh. Thank you so much! Can't I just attach the Version 1 to the inside like you do with the version 2 (3mSuper velcro tabs) or is there a shape difference? I like version 2 much better because there is no direct contact with the rear window.

I think the version 2 is a thicker material. And it is cut so that velcro on the WR is inset into the plastic so that the WR sits flush up against the car. If the velcro wasn't set into the WR, then the WR would kind of stick out because that industrial strength stuff is pretty thick.

Plus the bottom edge of the version 2 has a nice brushed aluminum plate to cover up where the velcro is so the velcro isn't visible in the passenger compartment through the clear plastic.

Here is a pretty decent shot of how V2 attaches.

Versions

Hello All,

Thanks for all the input for our perspective customers. Just to add to what you have said, the version two is 1/4" thick, the version 1 is 1/8" thick. That is the only reason for the price difference. There is no quality difference at all, only mounting/placement. Lot's of people love the V1, same for the V2...

I've about decided to order a Windrestrictor, but I still have a couple questions.

I understand that the differences between version 1 and version 2 are where they mount and the thickness.

Is there a particular reason someone might choose one over the other?

Is there any functional benefit to the thicker (or thinner) version? Does one do a better job of restricting the wind than the other?

Also, someone posted above that version 2 mounts using the industrial strength velcro, but that it is covered up by the brushed aluminum trim piece across the bottom. However the picture Texas Red Line appears to show the velcro up behind the headrest. What's the scoop?

Well, I am going to Kansas City, a 3.5 hour drive, tomorrow to pick up my new sky. Thought hmmmm, that sure is a long ride and a windrestrictor sure would be nice. Well, its 1:30pm and I pick up my car at noon tomorrow. Wonder if they will overnight to the dealer so I can have it for the ride home?

I pick up the phone, give them a call, and hung up with the restrictor being shipped out overnight, next day am!

Kudos!
