Actually I always use protection and all fluids were kept inside the engine.
As were all the broken chain links, guides, bent valves and cracked cylinder walls.



If you have never seen how the engine in the Alfa is made, its pretty awesome and I highly recommend watching it.
How its made, Dream Cars Alfa Romeo 4c
This Was on The Velocity channel

They heat the engine to expand the cylinders, then put sleeves in them, let it cool, then bore them to spec.
Its obviously not a process unique to just this car, but it is cool to see
