A photo of lifting a SKY

With all respect to everyone's contributions to the subject of lifting your SKY, I want to submit a photo of 4PHXKIDS (vanity plate of Phx Hospital Charity cars, Scott Bindley). This is the way I always have shops lift my Kappas.

Looking closely at the photo of the lift itself, you can see the puck-like lift point that is part of the lift's manufacture. These puck-like points appear to be of a screw type that can be adjusted up and down. There have been many discussions about owners having hockey pucks available if the lift equipment is not providing proper clearance to the Kappa body.

Now in the photo, note the lift point just ahead at the right rear tire. You can see that black round surface that is in contact with the frame-rail slot. This is the proper lift point to use on both sides of the rear of the car.

Now I want to turn your attention behind the left front tire. Although a little harder to see, an identical puck-like adjustable device is positioned at the rear-most spot of the left fender, underneath on the frame-rail slot. (I wish the photo was more clear, but it is what it is. Your Kappa has these slots) Both front sides of your Kappa has these two slots.

My Kappa cars are always lifted at these four points. I always instruct these points be used and have always had success at any shop that has lifted my cars. And my opinion is that without covering this subject with most shops, they will swing their lift arm differently in front, which CAN bend the structure slightly behind the engine (others have had this experience). In my opinion, this works best for me.

And there is a discussion about LIFTING or JACKING, which manuver you are doing. I'm sorry but I have a lot of trouble finding my way through that discussion of which is which??

Discount Tire rotates my tires with four jacks, but raising the car from the four rail slots.

I have lifted kappa's literally hundreds of times, always using the frame slots. Never an issue.

Mike, I respectively disagree. Per the photo in post #4 , the front of the car is NOT being lifted via the rails. However, I do agree this has been a long misunderstood aspect of this lifting subject.

That photo is showing the lifting via the units (no name) about a foot inside of each side of the rails and just behind the motor. These are the units RtE has long pointed out these points crushed from use resulting in his having to rebuild them.

With 2 post lift I couldn't use the frame slots, the arms were too long. I had to use those front points and the rear slots.

Do I understand correctly that if the dealer uses the two front pylons, they can damage them?

I don't know about putting a jack stand on them, but yea, over time those will deform if you use them for jacking. I didn't realize it until too late and now those pads on my car look like upside down serving bowls.

I wonder if the issue was that your jack was not getting the load to the side walls and was only in contact with the flat part causing it to crush upward causing the bowl shape you describe. Just thinking if the jack was getting to the side wall, then the failure would be crushing the sidewalls which I don't think would look like a bowl as you described.
