Now I have a made a close friend angry with me. I apologized if I offended, just seems overboard to me. My opinion, and certainly Vic is entitled to his opinion. My suggestion to close it was to stop the anger, now I am getting it full force.

Vic I apologize for offending you.

This is my last comment on this thread.

This isn't that big a deal for anyone to get bent out of shape about.

However, just to see what happens, and since I had never availed myself of the "ignore" list, I tried to put that vendor on my own "ignore" list. The result: "Sorry [this vendor] is a moderator/admin and you are not allowed to ignore him or her."

Interesting . . .

Who was it that suggested the "ignore" option in the original thread?

Guys, I hear you loud and clear. This is Paul btw. I've been advertising off and on here for WindRestrictor the last few years. If anyone had a problem or has one please hit me up [email protected]. I can lower the signature. The issue here wasn't that someone made a suggestion, that I understand. We've had issue with the person who suggested it in the past, that's why I didn't see it as just a "suggestion". I don't want to get into the hows, whys, and whats. If you've seen our interactions with others though, we've been more than patient. BTW the problems had nothing to do with our product at all. But, lower the posts and the font... Yep, I can do that. That's no problem.

I'm going to post this then immediately after lower the font and my post count even more. You can also PM me here if you have any further suggestions. Thanks.

Huh...interesting indeed. Wonder if they are seen as a mod/admin because of their vendor specific forum. Did you try turning sigs off? Wonder if it has the same limitations.

And this is the productive way of making changes I was talking about before. Vendors want to get their message across but they also understand that if they go the wrong route in their methods then they need to adjust their methods or they lose business. Companies like Windrestrictor that have been around the block a while understand this and do their best to balance their advertising goals against customer feedback in relation to said advertising.

And here what Marvic was wanting to achieve has been achieved in a mature, rational fashion. I hope he sees this and understand I wasn't against what he had a problem with but rather that I was against the way he was going about trying to change it. I hope this thread has ran its course and no longer needs to be brought up. No need to close it though as look at what is has brought forth being allowed to discuss this issue by being allowed to stay open.

I hadn't tried that, but just did a brief trial, and turning off sigs gets rid of them all, period. Even yours was gone. I turned them back on, as I enjoy people's sigs, it helps to differentiate the users.

Weird

I never even realized their posts or signature were an issue. That makes me very surprised that was the vendor and the issue.
Jees, buck the F Up. There are way more important things to worry about and much larger issues to get upset at.

Screw that!

Vendor or not, there is NO need to make your font all teeny tiny in your signature OR to stop posting on topics that interest you!

So a very small group sees it as spam...

SO WHAT?

They are by far in the minority compared to ALL the OTHERS who've posted that it's not a big deal (or that haven't even bothered to post on the subject).

Ugh!

Nova, you have to realize Paul from WR is doing what he feels is best for his business. Upsetting your target demographic is not good for business. And we're not talking people who just started posting, we're talking members who have been around a while. I think with the red in the sig the message still gets across without being hugely distracting.

Guys, I really appreciate the support. It's been quite the "s" show though and I'd just like it to end. It was never that big of a deal. If a customer would've just pmed me it would've probably been done a while ago quietly. If either of you (or anyone) want to talk to me about it please pm me or email me. Thanks again guys.

after using the internet for so long i find myself "ad blind" (i also don't read post sigs) so i fall into the group that literally doesn't care. but..

"tired of seeing ads? subscribe now." if someone promised subscribers an ad free experience i could see how subscribers might be offended that it's "alright for some."

as a developer i believe forum owners could mod the site to allow sigs to include an "[ad]" tag, and could require advertisers wrap their 'sig ads' in the tag so they can offer an "ad free experience" to paid subscribers (lifetime or otherwise.) advertisers would pay for this privilege (since unauthorized advertisers would be actioned against.) site operators could use this to determine if a poster was violating terms (ie. audit their site(s), of which i'm sure they own a surprising number). there is also reporting value, like CTRs, which "direct" advertisers might appreciate if they don't already have their own service.

but then i'm "ad blind", it seems like a waste of time/money to bother.

To be quite honest I was thoroughly surprised that it was Vic that got upset over this silly subject. WR large add in his sig never bothered me since I ignore all advertising on the w w w. My ad blocker s/w takes care of 90% percent, the rest I just ignore..
So Vic, when you get you a$$ back in here quite being so childish, you trying to imitate that other old man?

I personally don't care about the sig. But I always review the fora by using the 'new posts' review and the (seemingly) constant new threads from WR bite my crank. Which, by the way, still continue daily.

I'm not sure what else I can possibly do. Guys, you don't have to read said posts. Lowered the post count, lowered the font, and through it all the only thing that's keeping my count up is defending myself. But, you're mad because I have threads in new posts? I'm sorry. Can't do anything else. Understand this is my job and I'd like to make you happy as much as possible. But, now I feel like you're asking me to not do my job. That's something I can't change. BTW I think I've said everything that I'm going to say on this subject. Again, any further problems you can pm me here or email me.We're not going anywhere. Thanks.
