Delorean Solstice?

There was a rumor last year that DMC would produce a next generation Solstice in 2011. Has anybody heard anymore about this?

Great Idea but GM pulled the plug
Delorean Solstice Plans Cancelled

Posted June 1 2010 08:01 AM by HPPCHRIS
Filed under: Pontiac News, Chris Phillip

Do you remember the Delorean Solstice, which the Delorean Motor Company planned on building in the Wilmington, Delaware plant that built Pontiac Solstices and Saturn Skys before it was shut down due to GM's bankruptcy?

Delorean Motor Company made every feasable effort to lease the plant, its equipment, and its tooling, and introduce electric and gasoline-powered Delorean Solstices for the 2011 model year.

GM would not allow the plan to go through, so the Delorean Solstice is dead for now. We'll keep you posted if there's any more news on the topic.

Dreams that didn't come true.

The Delorean Solstice and the Penske Sky suffered the same sad fate.

Wilmington goes to Fisker.

Judge Approves Sale of GM Wilmington Plant to Fisker

A bit of trivia. The Fisker Karma uses the LNF. Not only did Fisker get our plant. Karma gets our engine.

More on Fiskar:

Quote:
The start-up company gained national prominence late last year when it secured a $529 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy to promote domestic vehicle manufacturing. In a ceremony in October last year attended by Vice President Joe Biden, Fisker said it would purchase an idled General Motors plant in Delaware to build the project Nina car, which is expected to cost almost $40,000 after tax credits and incentives. The Karma will be manufactured in Finland.

A123 Systems, too, has benefited from state and federal incentives to establish production of electric vehicle technologies in the U.S., having received a $249 million loan from the DOE's auto battery program.

Quote:
Fisker Automotive, another California-based company, is a joint venture between Fisker Coachbuild and Quantum (News - Alert) Technologies that has developed a plug-in hybrid sports car which it intends to begin selling in June of this year. Unlike Tesla, this “start up” started up with substantial financial backing topping $200 million in venture capital from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Palo Alto, CA
More:

Quote:
On Oct. 27, Fisker officials announced that the company had signed a letter of intent to take control of GM’s Boxwood Road Plant in Wilmington, Del. In addition to a purchase price of $118 million, Fisker plans to spend $175 million on the plant by 2012. Vice President Joe Biden attended the announcement. The company plans to build between 75,000 and 100,000 Fisker NINA (a mass-market plug-in hybrid sedan) by 2014. The factory will create 2,000 jobs directly and 1,000 more indirectly (half to be exported).

We won’t focus on the roadblocks to Fisker’s strategy – including an IP lawsuit being filed by Tesla – mentioning it only as one more indicator that the competition among electric vehicle players is heating up as the stakes get higher.

Finally, like Tesla, Fisker secured a federal loan from the $25 billion Advanced Technologies Vehicle Manufacturing Loan Program. The $529 million loan will principally fund “Project NINA” to design, engineer and assemble Fisker’s second-generation, $39,000 sedan, for sale starting in 2012. That will put just 100,000 cars on the road – but that’s 100,000 electric cars that will be connected to the smart grid, managing and monitoring our energy consumption – and talking to us and each other.

Let's see if Fisker can do better than the Tesla Roadster.
Surely, they will sell more than 1,100 cars?
Maybe... maybe not.

Their projected pricepoint of 39K seems rather ....... optimistic.
