I totally agree. Maybe keep subforums for unique parts like body and interior pieces and merge the mechanical threads. Let's be honest they aren't making more cars and the base isn't growing, if anything it's just laterally transitioning from old to new owners.

You DID go off the deep end. When you have guys that have been doing this for years tell you that your first setup is nicer than any they've ever seen, that's a clue you jumped in with both feet first! LOL Hey, I'm the same way with stuff so this is by no means a negative thing...LOL

I think San Diego has gone quiet because Myrna and Eric are planning their wedding and no one else down there EVER plans anything. Myrna asked me to do a run in June and I just won't have the car done by then for it. Plan and simple. I hope to get that Whitney/Death Valley run together but I still haven't heard back from the parks service about driving up to their parking lot. Apparently you need a pass or something for that and I'm trying to get details...that along with working on cars, doing shows, running autocross...life has been a little hectic this year.



Age has a definite role in all this. The Sky forum, and the car itself, always seemed to attract an older crowd that was far more into the social aspect of owning a special vehicle like this one. The Pontiac club, and car, attracted a younger audience and those who were more into the performance and modification aspect of these cars than they were the social aspect. The Sky folks appreciate the performance, but enjoy the social part more...while the Solstice folks enjoy the social aspects that come with going to events and races with modified cars. I don't know if it has something to do with the brands or what, but there is a very big difference overall between your average Sky owner and average Solstice owner.

I'm 46 and sometimes feel like part of the "young" group at our events if that tells you anything. If we get younger folks out to our events, they usually find them boring and tame...and the group usually finds them rash and dangerous (had one young man try to power slide his car in a U-turn and just about hit another member's car...) so they rarely come back for a second try. Conversely, I very rarely see members at autocross or racing events except Gassor and I.

So that's probably why you see more of the socialization aspect on this site and more of the technical discussion on the Solstice sites. It's kind of the nature of the owners and how they flocked to each platform. Of course this isn't a blanket statement for ALL owners of the two different cars (lord knows I fall into more the Pontiac side of that generalization...) but this is the general vibe I get from the two sites and two sides.

Traffic is sparse enough on both sites that it would be a good thing if the two were amalgamated, but I understand there are factors that would prevent that. Too bad.

I think the moderators want decency here. I trust them to do a number on the ones that cross that line, and I'll do my job by continuing to enjoy this forum - lack of warts, that some seem to pine for, and all.

According to Robo, I went off the deep end. I have a good sized N scale lay out, that I work on anytime I am not working it seems. Seldom drive the cars or go to shows lately. Had one in my home town yesterday, and went to a train meeting instead.

Plus our local club (San Diego group) seems to have pulled in the reins on drives. Possibly if Robo and I ever get the Inland Empire Club up and going I can be more involved.

No car shows or runs until after the FJ National in July it appears. Then I have my Palm Springs run the end of September, and hopefully Robo will get is Las Vegas/Mount Whitney run together for October

Cross between not having many cars built and not many people even knowing about them...and id rather talk about turbo maps than n scale trains but that's my preference. However, I don't see anyone looking at the forum and going away because they're snowflakes, but rather because it's just stupid banter and inside jokes. It's sort of like slapstick comedy in real life. Could you be the guy who hired larry curly and moe expecting a well-painted house only to be flustered when they've only painted themselves? Meanwhile, you still want to paint your house. That said, tons of useful info on here but it's so much harder to sift through than any of the other forums I've been on, including some sister platform forums. It's admittedly frustrating.

Also id be curious to the demographics here and our interests and all that. I'm a 29 year old dude who likes fast and weird cars. Would guess I'm on the younger end of the scale but with the same fascination, which is why we all own these. Love the car and the platform.

This is not intended to offend anyone, just my view of this board.

I don't think there is anyone on this site that I don't like. I enjoy everyone's posts, and the questions, but this place is dead as a door nail. It used to be a lot of fun, and it died about the time Mike got banned and Marvic1 left.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feeling, but where do some of you come from. Mike is about as real as you can get. The old adage sticks and stones comes to mind. I don't want to see continuous fighting or arguing, but Mike makes some hilarious comments, but most just take them as evil. He is one of the nicest, most helpful people on this board. A little rough around the edges, but if my information is correct, he was a homicide detective in New York City, so he has seen things that most would never dream of. He does not sugar coat stuff and I for one am very glad he is back and makes his occasional jab!!!!

We have no banter, nothing to get the fire going. I am on a model train forum that gets far roudier than this place. I would guess knitting sites are much tougher.

Were here to have fun, learn about the car and have a good day. Nothing more. The drone in here is deafening.
