Bryan Hilliard 278th Armored Calvary Regiment (det) Air Cav 1979-1985. Started as an E-2, worked my way through OCS, and left shortly thereafter. It was a reserve unit, and my CO was killed in an OH-6 crash. The guy who replaced him was a drunk, and a REMF to top it off. Many left.

marlboromike One of the great speeches given to a graduation class last year was from an Admiral...he started it off with "making your bed each morning"...I will look it up and see if I can find it.

I found it. The second link is the abridged version of his speech. The 3rd link is for all of us who woke up in the morning..but revised

My greatest honor was serving this country and the people of it. I miss the Marine Corps every single day, miss the young kids, the old lifers, the young officers and some general grade officers that I call true friends. Life has been very good to me, and mostly because of the training I received from the Marine Corps, the great men and women that I fought with, the friends I lost at a very early age. All made me wiser and stronger.

And thanks to all of you that appreciate what others do for you.

Freedom is not Free.

380ss Glad someone bumped this post.

I retired from the Army in 2008 but still work for the Department of Defense taking care of the men and women that are still doing our country proud.

I've deployed 6 times and sometimes as long as 18 months.

I must say I've enjoyed the support from our fellow citizens over the last 10 years and it really made a difference to us all down range. So if you haven't served in the military, you still have contributed a great deal to our men and women with your support, and I thank you.

Signed,

Chief Warrant Officer Three (Retired)
Patrick Strobel

(and no I didn't fly helicopters)
