(Posted here because I don't really expect a "real" answer; just speculation. And thought it was interesting.)

Trolling around the interweb tonight I came across the following interior shot of a "2008 Saturn Sky" in a gallery from Car & Driver... Is this maybe from the concept or a pre-production 2007, maybe? I ask because of the following:

1 - chrome overlays on steering wheel controls. I dunno if I like it or not, but it's certainly different. Also appears to have the "flush" steering wheel controls that were later replaced.

2 - Is that a blue lens filter on the radio??? Whaaaaa....????
(Probably from the Cobalt or HHR?)

3 - What's the button on the door panel insert infront of the grab handle for? Obviously not the ashtray/12v outlet like on the Opels....?
(Also, to my eye, it looks like what is the door panel insert on our cars is actually molded into the rest of the door in the pic, making me think it's a shot of the concept or GM stock photography or something.)

I didn't mean that button, but thanks!

I circled it in yellow here:

I'm assuming you mean like the console surround, sure, mine are like that too. But in this pic they have a mirror finish, like on the door handle, the top of the manual shifter or the door pull.

To begin with...the original concept cars had a RED DASH...so eliminate that....and of course, that is a 2.4L. If u look closely, the steering wheel logo is not FLUSH but has definition. We know members who changed out their radios because of the difficulty in reading lettering in sunlight...but this is the first time, I have seen that door switch on the insert...someone probably ran another switch from the original, giving ergonomically access. If u look at the fuel gage, it is white (or a glare)...the original cars had black fuel gages. If u look at your foot rest, it is chromed...the original cars with the premium interior package...their foot rests where not chromed. Last thing! Steering wheel controls in this picture...the original cars, they were flush. These r raised. And here is the 2006 (IT IS NOT A TYPO) sky. Build date 3/27/06.

I disagree. I don't think Car & Driver Magazine would take a picture of someone's personal modified car and post it on their website as an article example of the vehicle. They're more apt to use stock photograpy from GM or have taken their own pics.

Here's another shot from the same segment. There's a red CHMSL, like on the Opel & Solstice and the manufacturer's license plate. It looks like the antenna was airburshed out (cuz it ain't there) but on zooming in, there's what looks to be a post for it, just in a slightly different location that on the actual car.

This one also shows a different placement of the GM chicklet:
(The Pontiac Solstice Book also shows similar placement of a larger plate in the same area on pg. 127)

Yes, that's a glare.

:dunno: I dunno. I've zoomed into this pic and they look flush to me. I have the raised ones and on mine there's definition around the buttons making them raised, which this one's doesn't appear to have.

And to stir the pot a little more... here's a stock photo from GMInsiderNews.com, also showing the weird "mystery" door button and chrome overlays on the steering wheel controls:

If you compare the two photos side by side or do an overlay (adjusted for size), you will find the two photos to be identical, other than the C & D photo has been rendered in black & white.

More info...look again at the bottom of the steering wheel logo..u will see definition...and the NEW PHOTO of the SKY...shows it is a pre-production model...there is no regular antenna. There were no chicklets on the concept car...matter of fact, the concept cars had NO ENGINE. They were pushed onto the car show floors...many of the pre production cars on the streets sported Michigan plates....and in place of the chicklet, was another 3 inch badge...cannot recall what it actually said...too lazy to do the reasearch  You may want to go back to the gallery on the forum...u will find pictures of these cars.

Remember this..and this is the key, none of the concept cars had electric door locks...and none of the production models had electric door locks for the first 6 months. These were put in because of the voicing on this forum...Wilmington was watching what we were screaming about...including the electric seat.

I am still going with the electric door lock on the door insert. The red dash was taken out of production because of sun glare...that would be a PRIZE if someone found one.

With the exception of the mystery button, this could be the interior of my Sky. It was "pre-owned", but I did find out that it has the optional interior trim package which includes bright trim on the pedals and doorsills. In this photo I think it's glare on the fuel guage, but mine is white. My steering wheel buttons are raised, but surrounded by silver trim.

I just noticed the 3rd brake light in one of the pictures...it is RED...the original models were clear with red LEDs but did not have a redish look. They lit up red when braking only...take a look at mine. Later in production they changed the 3rd brake light to have a greater redish tint

Great observation, DaveOC. Maybe they photoshopped the red treatments out of the red pic. There's still some color in the black interior, like on the gauges, but where it would otherwise be red leather looks like a funny, muddy kinda black on close-up.

Also on close-up of the red pic, if you look below the left side steering wheel controls you can also see a button on the lower dash where the dimmer wheel is on our cars. Kinda looks like the reverse fog light button (aka Solstice fog light button) but kinda hard to tell.

I missed that color on the instruments. The dead giveaway is that all the reflections are identical. I wouldn't catch the color as I am partially color-blind.

I just changed my brake light a few days ago. I wanted red to match my red Sky.

As for the third brake light, I changed mine out with the Solstice third brake light.

did anyone catch the that the RPMS are sitting at 1000 yet there is nothing on the DIC to indicate the car is on.

Yep, I saw that, but figured it's a way early GM publicity photo, the DIC probably wasn't working, why bother to mention it?
