And I don't care what GM does or how old I get. I will never, ever, drive a Buick LeSabre.Think again. SATURN is no more...The death bell done tolled.....Skip.....![]()
But how about this Buick: 112 0405 First Velite03 Z Photo It kind of has a Kappa feel to it, maybe it is those clam shell hood and deck lids? And I don't care what GM does or how old I get. I will never, ever, drive a Buick LeSabre.
Ditto! I have owned many Buicks over the years and yes it's not your Grandpa's Buick! :banghead:But how about this Buick: 112 0405 First Velite03 Z Photo It kind of has a Kappa feel to it, maybe it is those clam shell hood and deck lids?
Of course I am biased, because I have always been a little partial to Buick, as my user name suggests. And who knows, maybe with Pontiac gone, Buick will start producing some interesting things again. After all, the GS 455 still holds as one of the highest producing torque engines of all time. And the GNX turbo still holds as one of the fastest 0-60 cars of all time.
I owned a Pontiac 455 HO, also on 500 ft-lbs., but that was gross. Not sure what they put out net. After all, the GS 455 still holds as one of the highest producing torque engines of all time. And the GNX turbo still holds as one of the fastest 0-60 cars of all time.
A GN stock was 13.8-14.0. A GNX was 13.20's stock on street tires. My friend has a GNX with 20,000 miles on the clock. Nothing but a chip change on street tires and went 12.80 @108mph. This about 14lbs of boost.I owned a Pontiac 455 HO, also on 500 ft-lbs., but that was gross. Not sure what they put out net.
The GNX was a pretty interesting car, using turbo technology to create a fairly decent performer in the middle of a pretty bleak period. It certainly doesn't have 0 - 60 times near any number of more modern cars, though. You must be quoting a contemporary article. In 1987 it was pretty darned fast. Today, a stock GXP with GMPP tune can pretty much equal it. ( GNX - 0-60 ~ 5.4 - 5.6, 1/4 in 13.8)
I think you have to compare stock with stock. There is always someone out there with a new trick for more power, it just depends on how long you want it to last and how much power you want.My friend has a GNX with 20,000 miles on the clock. A GXP with a tune may be able to do this?? But please don't compare a GXP with the legendary GNX. :nono:
A GXP with a tune is not stock in my book. And if your Fiero runs those times it's not stock either not even close.I think you have to compare stock with stock. I've got a Fiero that will do similar times to the GNX...but so what?
I always wished that they had put the nice GNX engine into a more attractive lighter vehicle. Like a Fiero that weighed 600 lbs. less than the sedan they stuck it in!
Here is some interesting reading on the subject: BuickGNX.com for Information on the 1987 Buick GNX Click on the "performance" link and see what they say. The "accepted" times were 0-60 of 5.3 and 1/4 of 13.3. But the interesting part is that Car & Driver quoted 0-60 of 4.7 (but that may have been a prototype with tweaks) However I have known at least two GNX owners that were cracking 5, and their cars were definitely not the prototypes. Here is another interesting read: Buick Grand National (The Best 80's Car)I owned a Pontiac 455 HO, also on 500 ft-lbs., but that was gross. Exactly why I mentioned the Fiero - it isn't stock, so whatever performance it may have is as relevant as the numbers you quoted for the non-stock car your friend has.A GXP with a tune is not stock in my book. And if your Fiero runs those times it's not stock either not even close.

This is the crazy thing about Buick's little know "performance division", they always tended to do things on the QT. No one really ever suspected my GS Stage 1, until they were seeing tail lights. Speaking of which here is cool video for all of you Buick fans out there:
Edit: There are times I miss the sound of that 800 CFM Quadrajet matched to the monstrous 455 exhaust just scaring the hell out of some ricer. There just isn't anything else that sounds quit like it.
Sorry to hear about your loss :cryin:Nice looking ride, fast86gn:
Odd coincidence, I lived in Nacogdoches TX for a couple of years back in the early 90s. My neighbor had his father's red 72 GS. I had a 70 GS hard top. Both cars got rear ended in separate accidents by two different knuckleheads. So we helped each other build new cars. That is where I ended up with the convertible in this link: http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/f24/08-brake-issue-correct-fix-27978/#post387612 That is my wife and her Sky in the picture. Sadly, the Buick is no more. But it went to a happy home. I needed room back in my garage and money in the bank.
