My dash has a slow-developing but now entirely annoying case of the dreaded chrome trim ring rattle.

Who has the secret to fixing this in a permanent/semi-permanent way that doesn't cosmetically alter the car? Does the trim ring just snap/pull off?

Ok! Following!
I've always had this rattle and no amount of foam pieces, tape, etc has ever been able to fix this. Would love to hear more on this topic.

The trim ring DOES just snap off. The tunnels also pull out, but the tunnels have little rubber bumpers on the inside edge to stop rattles - and those rubber caps are easy to knock off when you pull the tunnels. Are you sure no-one has removed your tunnels in the past and lost a bumper or two?

If not that, press around the rings and tunnels when it is rattling and try to find where the rattle actually is. Then you can add some mastic or 'Blu-tack' inside to buffer the parts that are rattling. Note you can get a Blu-tack equivalent poster mount mastic at Dollar Tree (for $1!)

I rolled up a piece of black electrical tape and wedged it between the bottom of the tunnel and the top of the lens.
It probably replaces, or at least supplements, the rubber feet that TS mentioned.
You can kind of see it if you look really, really hard.
No disassembly, and no real investigation.

99% sure. The car has only been out of my sight at dealer service shops three times, and never for rattles. The closest any dealer service shop has come to working in that area was after I became an "early winner" of the ignition switch failure award (a year before the recall). I can't imagine why they'd have pulled the gauge cluster apart for the ignition switch.

I'm pretty sure it's the rings because the noise stops when I hold them against the gauge tunnels/tubes and they rattle when I tap them with a finger. It's more than one ring and it's getting worse.

How much force required to remove them, and how do they fasten? I'd like to pull them off but really don't want to break anything.

I'm backing away from my previous statements, because I've been talking based on my knowledge of my Solstice. I'm beginning to think that this is one of those few places where the Sol and Sky differ. See this pic of the Sky tunnels, it looks like the rings are firmly attached to the tunnels. Can anyone with a Sky comment?

I never heard of the rings rattling. It was always the cover on top of the gauges that rattled...And the solution to that rattle was to stick a piece of cardboard under the cover...the rattle disappeared.

Update:

The chrome trim ring isn't a trim ring, it's two trim rings. There is a larger piano black ring and a smaller, inner chrome/plastic part. They snap together.

All three circles (the speed, tach, and fuel gauge cones) all come off together. Be gently and use a spudger to work a large ring loose and then work from there around.

The little chrome piece rattles against the large piece and the large piece rattles against the gauge cones in the dash. I lined the larger ring with electrical tape as a damper, then used another piece to affix the chrome to the piano black part in each ring. I wasn't yet willing to resort to glue or other non-reversible methods.

As-is, it's 85% better. There is still a little rattle that I have yet to isolate. Will post some photos later and also update if/as I fix the last of it.

Sadly, with this noise mostly fixed I noticed another high frequency rattle that almost sounds like a buzz. Seems to be coming, intermittently, from the driver's side mirror or the A pillar tweeter. Happens with the radio off.

Onward...

Our Sky has developed a number of squeaks and rattles over the years. I put a Solo exhaust on it and a G8 radio. Cant hear them anymore. :)
