Alright Fellow Kappa Owners!
It's finally time for a new clutch. The original clutch is beginning to slip under moderate/hard pulls. The DDMWorks 2.0 Performance Clutch Kit is on its way. Though I wish I had the time to tackle this one, its a little much for my bandwidth right now. Anyone know of a reputable mechanic preferably in the Northern California area? Though it would be more of a hassle, I suppose I can still drive to Southern California if anyone (Robo/Skrsfan!) knows a good mechanic that can get this done down there.
Pass Auto in Banning, CA. Ask for Curtis. If you come down on a weekend he can give you a better price is my guess. He works on all my cars and actually drives a Redline with a standard transmission
Hello Folks,
Quick update, I ended up going with a transmission shop in the Bay Area that turned out do very good work.
Upon the removal of the transmission, they discovered that the coolant hose just above the transmission bell housing had a very small leak caused by a puncture from the edge of a hose clamp positioned right next to it, that was leaking onto the clutch. This was the cause of the clutch slipping under slight pulls, the pressure place actually had rust on its face. As this particular coolant hose is a discontinued part and could not be found at any of their vendors or surrounding gm dealers, they decided to repair the hose with a small pipe where the hole was. Considering the position of this hose, it looks like it would be very difficult to repair if another hole should develop within that vicinity of that area. A future headache, I'm sure.
With regard to the DDM Performance Clutch, It feels very nice for the 15 miles that I've driven so far. Still getting used to taking off of 1st as the engagement of the clutch is different from stock. Gear changes are smooth and it feels good on light pulls (Haven't pulled hard yet, giving it a few hundred miles to get on it). Though the kit was a little steep in price, I'm happy with my decision to go with the DDM kit.
I'm interested in an update if you have the time. I'm out boosting my stock clutch and looking for the preferred replacement. Only looking to support 300-325WHP.
Unless you're like a die hard racer, that's not going to be the clutch for you. Expensive with terrible driving manners (not my opinion, the manufacturer states it isn't intended for much street driving).
