for those of you who have actually been in the production model sky, I have a question. When you were in the car and had to get out, I understand that the doors unlock when the car is turned off but if the car is running.. how did you unlock the door?

The sols apparently don't have and "unlock" button like just about every other car these days does, so I was wondering if its the same on the sky (I'm guessing it is)

They report that if your driving along with a passenger and you need to drop them off, the only way they can get out (and not just a passenger but the driver also)----

only three ways to unlock the doors.

1. Manually pull up door lock.
2. Hit unlock button on remote key fob.
3. Shut off engine.
is this the case in the sky also?

But why?

It seems like such a small cost for a very simple function of having a door unlock button... i mean even if you lodged a second Fob into the dashboard. Any thoughts on why this may have happened? Safety concerns? Theft protection? Cost effectiveness for platform sharing?

I don't see why it is necessary. If a friend is getting in and the top is down, they can unlock the door. If the top is up, just hit your keychain...what's the big deal? Its nice not to have a billion buttons in my opinion. If the battery is dead in the keychain, reach over...its not like this is too far to reach either. Just not something I would complain about or lose any sleep over. "Yeah, I was gonna buy a Sky, but no door lock button...I guess I'll pass." It seems a little redundant now adays with the remote keyless entry. I don't think I've ever used my actual button in my 02 VUE. i just use the keychain.

ya, I don't know. seems like it was annoying to alot of sol owners but I kinda tend to agree with you in that it is probably to much trouble to fix now. I don't quite understand why they left it off in the first place, seems like it would have been easy and cheap as the lock/unlock mechanism is already in the car if you got the power package. oh well, maybe some of our crafty members will want to give a shot.

I have a idea why it may have been left off. Because of the theft alarm, if you lock the car, and someone comes along when the top is down and pushes the door unlock button it may have turned off the alarm system, while if they pull the door lock knob up it would set off the alarm... just an opinion on my part though. that is a good reason not to attach the spare keyfob to the console, plus they could get into the trunk....

but the s2000 has it. I know its a 35k car but it can be done. I thought your theory was a good one so when I get home tonight I'm going to lock myself in my Tacoma that has autolocks and an alarm and then press the unlock button and see what happens.
for the record, I'm a tinkerer (sp?) so as unlikely as I am to change this on my sky, its fun to figure this stuff out and come up with a possible fix for someone else. just thought I'd say that to try and avoid the flaming posts on how dumb it is to change anything on this car that are undoubtedly going to start anytime now.
