Is anyone aware of any differences between the Front Lower Control Arms of the Sky and Solstice?
I tried looking for a ball joint replacement and could only find the whole LCA... so I ordered one from GMPartsdirect a week ago.
this morning I checked on the order... still no ETA.
on a whim I checked for a ball joint for the Sol.
I got hits for ball joints for the LCA for the Solstice!!

MOOG K6537 shows fitment for 06 - 07 solstice only. (plus Caddy and Chevy products)

if no one knows of a reason for it not to work, I'll cancel my parts direct order and get the ball joint a hell of a lot faster and cheaper
I'm just leery of pressing into/out of aluminum.
Maybe I'll play with my bad upper first. I'll try pressing it out then back in later in the week.

well, I decided to bite the bullet and press out the lower ball joint this evening. (new one should be here tomorrow evening.)
it came out smooth as butter. easier than from most steel arms but using a 12 ton press helped.

OD of ball joint is 1.925" (48.90 mm)
ID of LCA is around 1.90" - 1.92" (most readings were 48.50 mm)
I did get an oddball reading of 48.63 mm a couple times while checking for out of round, but then couldn't duplicate it...

oh, none of the cups in the bearing press set that i had were small enough to press it out... had to find something laying around the garage that would work.

Hmmmmm...Thanks for the Long Road. Now I wonder if an adjustable ball joint can be pressed back in? The fact that you couldn't find the right cup has me worried but the fact you found it third party and that it fits Chevy and Caddy products too gives me hope.

I wasn't very clear on my second post after I went thru and edited out some info that that was wrong.
here is what I ended up with:

original ball joint.
diameter : 1.925"
length from seat to top : 24 mm (sorry for switching back an forth, since the length of the body just has to be close. I got to the closest mm ... if you want in inchs, use google to convert :))
full length, including seat area for dust cover: 30 mm

MOOG K6537
diameter : 1.930 (5 thou larger than stock)
length from seat to top: 20 mm :frown:
full length plus height for dust cover: 26 mm :crying:

I don't see this one being any use. It pressed in without issues but there's no way to get the dust cover to seal. Ishould have measured length instead of just eyeballing the length.
see pictures if it pressed in. note that there is a small gap. I did this on purpose. I wanted to see how it was going... and didn't see any reason to go any further.

Robotech, this ball joint is still listed for the Pontiac solstice '06-'07 as well as Chevy (Vette) and caddy XLR on MOOG's web site.
I'm going to keep looking. there's an ACDELCO 45D2339 that looks from all outward appearances (I know, I know) to be the same as the original BJ.
If anyone can find the specs... please let me know!
