Going to look at a replacement Sky tomorrow, would appreciate advice

Driving about 4 hours west tomorrow to view (and hopefully purchase) this Sky.

Much thanks to ChopTop for directing me to it.

It is almost identical to my (now destroyed) Sky. Differences are that this car does not have Monsoon, does have Chrome wheels, and has a LOT less mileage.

I would appreciate it if some of our forum's experts would peruse the photos and remind me of things to check before price negotiations begin. I have a few things already in mind, but I have no doubt that I'm missing some important ones also.

And if you notice any warning flags from his photos...please bring them up! Thanks.

Yeah, I just went and found this forums Ignore option have not had to use that in some time.
Yep. Sadly it doesn't help with post quotes.

mbeardsley, hoping we get to see pictures of your new Sky today. It almost feels like 10 years ago :)
Robo...go back to the members who installed the GM tune. I cannot remember anyone who was impressed. And while 12% may seem like alike to many...it certainly doesn't change my style of living...just saying. A poor man is poor plus or minus 12%.

Remember the increase of 5 HP if u install a CAI....don't think so. Just more noise.

Never said those were people with Kappas. For other cars adding a CAI does make power, but not in our cars. Yet, people still do it to add just 5 hp to those cars.

Enough though. Good luck with your potential purchase sir.
Bought the car yesterday.

It has some minor issues, but overall is in great shape. Car is at the dealership now getting some of those items looked at.

Paid $14,600. Might have overpaid a bit, but the chances of me finding another red on red close by in good condition are pretty close to zero.

It does NOT have any tune. Seller was obviously confused...dealership told him it had been "updated" to the latest software - he thought that meant it had been "upgraded". I will probably add the GMPP tune to it in a while.

Has a pretty annoying rattle/squeak somewhere in driver's door - hope the dealer can find it.

Runs nice and strong. Drove top down almost 5 hours at 80mph to get it home. Of course, I'm a little sunburned now, but still have a big permagrin!

Will post pictures when I get it back from the dealership and all cleaned up.

Thanks to all who provided help/info, and special thanks to ChopTop for finding it in the first place.

Congrats on finding what you wanted.
Great news! Glad to hear they're checking it out and getting is squared away!
Funny event on the way home with the car yesterday...

I had been looking at a maroon Merc-Benz SLK-350 here in case the Sky didn't pan out.

Stopped for gas about an hour after buying the car. Pulled into the station right next to a maroon SLK. A 10 year old kid comes over saying "wow...cool car...what is it?".

The kid ignored the guy with the SLK.

congrats on your new purchase.have the dealer check for a broken weld on the door striker.i had one done and took away a horrible noise that was there and driving me crazy.

You remember the old rule: You are obliged to post pictures when you pick up your Sky!

The software update could be the one that fixes the "I won't talk to the TPMS system or allow the key fobs to work if the battery is allowed to run all the way down" problem. Had that done on my last year or the year before.

Hey, it looks nice and sounds like you got a good deal. And with only 30K miles you should get a lot of good use out of it.
Congratulations.

If you get a tune, consider that the GM tune is warrantied and maintained by GM. On the other forum we are reading of a growing number of owners who are not getting support for after market tunes from some venders.
Congrats sir!!! Glad you found another Red on Red Redline. Hard to find something perfect that is ten years old. It may take a little bit of time, but when you get it done/fixed/brought up to standards, it will be better than the old one. Have fun.
Glad you found what you were looking for. Nice looking ride and hope you get a lot of enjoyment from it.

.
Congrats, not very long without a sky, way to go. I have heard of some people who look for a a year or two (or 4).

I would suggest you save your cash and buy the trifecta base tune. About $400 less and and just as good if not better.

Wow. The chance of finding a match that close to a special order this fast...simultaneous...seems so small, and yet there it is.

I like the chrome wheels. The red lug nuts look good, too.

Glad to have you back in the fold!

The red lug nuts are actually just plastic caps that fit on over the actual lug nuts. Had them on my other Sky too, just not when that first picture was taken.

I actually did have real red lug nuts at one time, but they kept fading to pink. The plastic covers don't fade, though they are a couple of shades brighter than the chili-pepper red.

IF the car doesn't have the GMPP tune, i would just do the Trifecta base tune, the same or better performance and lot less cost.
I had the GMPP tune done to my new Coupe at the dealer where I bought it. I had read early on that not only did you get 30 more HP & add about 80 ft/lbs torque, You'd get better gas mileage. That was my main reason for getting the tune. In the little over 33,000 miles I have on it now I have averaged 28.3mpg. Not a bad deal, Way more fun factor, PermaGrins and better gas mileage. I'd say Go for It!
GMPP or Trifecta. And really enjoy your Kappa even more.
