Hard top/soft top...

So I just went to a local Saturn dealer to inquire about the SKY, and they told me they're currently deciding on whether it's going to be a hard top or a soft top... has anyone else heard anything regarding this?

Sounds liek your dealer is mkaing stuff up. GM has announced it will be a soft top. Also the way the trunk is designed it would pretty much be impossible to get a hard top in their, especially since that would require it to be powered too.
Maybe they mean a conv or a coupe? Still sounds like they are full of crap
Just goes to show that Saturn dealers know just as much as Pontiac dealers. All production Kappa for the nearterm forseeable future are manual softtops. Rumors of factory removable hardtop abound. Rumors of rumors of coupe version like show car also out there.

Some confusion is because for internal designation GM for some reason calls even the Solstice a coupe. To us oldtimers a coupe is a 2 door hardtop with no window frames. A regular hardtop (or hardtop sedan) is a 4 door with frameless door windows and no center pillar. A sedan on the other hand has window frames and center pillar in 4 door version. A convertible hardtop is a car with folddown softtop and frameless side windows. There were in the fifties convertible sedans (framed windows) Retractables are a whole nother breed. Read the original Hardy Boys for more descriptions of coupes.

Technically for me the current Kappa is a roadster, which in my def may or may not have a top (not required but must be either removable or stowable) and only has 2 seats. In this somewhat limited approach a Morgan Plus 4 is not a roadster. But then a Sky is. to say that both Aura and Sky, as well as Sol and G6 are coupe is just not right. The G6 coupe has 2 doors and a backseat which probably also rules it out if you prefer that a coupe have only 2 seats.

If GM doesn't have a hardtop option by September 2006, I know a aftermarket company that will. So yes, you will be able to get a glass window hardtop for your Sky.
Removable Hard Top

I would expect aftermarket or maybe even Saturn having a removable Hardtop option for the Northern climes. Don't need it here in Fl unless I want to keep the heat out.
I am personally going to see how many continuous days I can go with out putting the top up. :)
