I'm interested in knowing how as well. If I have to remove my dash pad to change IP bulbs I'd like to do them all at once and with something that should last as long as I do!
Did you guys not read the first post in this thread?

The only part not covered here is getting the Sky dash apart, and there are a number of other threads on this forum covering that. <search>

So these bulbs are LEDs?

Because they sure don't look like it...

Thanks!, I already installed blue LED's and I'm going to remove the amber filter so they can be brighter blue.
I already changed the main gauges that I designed and Black Cat made them for me.
Although I had to add a red LED and to the center so they can light up the same way as my Glowshift Gauges.
May want to talk to you about how you did LEDs in the center console HVAC controls. May be changing my dash lighting...
Just saying because I DID read the first post of this thread and while you just quoted ZPM you did say "guys" so I'm guessing since he was quoting me that you included me in that :D...

Great info is there on accessing the PC board, and on the electrical specs of the incandescent OEM bulb. However, I was hoping for a part number, or link to a source, for a replacement LED that someone has figured out works. Meaning, direct fit base with an LED of appropriate brightness and color.

Look at the other thread I linked post 16... DBG found suitable blue ones on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/291219204323?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Other colors, you're on your own - or, as we say in Blighty, 'suck it and see' (which is NOT rude :))

Excellent! Thank you! Yeah, I missed seeing that link. :willy:

With the T4 T4.2 bulb/socket type designation I was able to look up several color options from China. Here are some examples:

Now we know where the ebay seller is getting them ha ha..

Oh, bloody lovely. GM must have used the idiot engineers who designed the roof mechanism and boot to design the HVAC controller. So instead of just popping the the knobs off and swapping the bulbs, you have to undertake what amounts to major surgery. And before any one gripes, the GM gang obviously didn't bother to look at Toyotas, Mazdas, BMWs, MBs, etc. to design the boot and roof.
My SKy is a hoot to drive but maintenance and repair really stinx.

Blame the chop shop anti-theft statutes and laws for making U.S. cars difficult to work on. Example: 1359. Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Statutes -- General Overview.

The HVAC controller predates the kappa cars. It's a parts-bin design from the Hummer.

The roof/boot mechanism was designed quickly to get the cars into production, and you can (partially) blame Bob Lutz, who loved the concept car's roof buttresses so much that he wanted them in production. Given that, I don't think the design is that bad, actually.
