How about a SkyCam?
Saturn should put up a web cam at the door where the cars roll off of the assembly line and call it the SkyCam. They could post the VIN and order number at the bottom of the screen as the car comes out the door.
Most of us have some spare time during the day. We could set up a schedule were at least one of us is always monitoring the SkyCam. This way we could alert the other members of the site by comparing the web shot VIN/order number with a master list here at SkyRoadster.
Besides the live SkyCam, Saturn could could record a few screen shots or pictures of the event, or even a video of it. That way once we are notified, we could go back to the SkyCam website, enter the VIN/order number and up pops the pictures or video of our cars coming out the door.
If they have enough time to enter the VIN or order number before the car comes out of the door, maybe we could set up email, pager, IM or cell phone text messaging to alert. Register our VIN/order number with Saturn ahead of time and get alerted just prior to it coming out the door. Then run to your computer and watch your car being born, LIVE ON THE WEB using the Saturn SkyCam.
I know times are a little tough at GM right now. So to defer some of the expenses, they could sell the pictures. You know, sort of like on a cruise ship or the some of the roller coaster rides at the amusment park.
I'm sure some of you might have some suggestions on how to improve this valuable SkyCam service.

Fantastic idea! Who do we need to talk to and convince at GM?
Great idea, however, their financial gain from selling off GMAC, I think was to recoup some big bucks for their financial woes, not import a SKYcam in the dealerships.... ha ha

How about a factory installed option to have a time lapse camera mounted on your rear view mirror that starts when the mirror is attached/installed and stops after your initial test drive or when you finally get home into your driveway.

Now that is thinking outside of the box, monitor the delivery right to your home. How's this sound? Have the factory install those new RFID (radio frequency I.D.) things in the car. Have them set to respond to EZ-Pass, you know, that toll both collection device. This way you could monitor the progress of the car hauler almost all the way to the dealer. Heck, if you wanted to, you could practically intercept the car hauler enroute and give it an escort to the dealer. If you are brave enough, you could have a friend drive his car right up next to the car hauler and you could jump on to the hauler. Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants to the dealer. Your car shows up at the dealer on the hauler, WITH THE TOP DOWN AND YOU IN IT.
Now I know some of you out there are probably asking, "What jerk started this thead, and why?" Well, I started it, DMBDLATC, and for a few reasons.
- I needed 30 posts, one of the criteria for being able to use an AVATAR. I don't really know what the heck that is, but I like the sound of it. This is my 30th post.
- I was getting a little tired of sitting around trying to figure out this darn order process. They accept your order and then say, "We don't have enough automatic transmissions, red leather, chrome wheels, (next week it will be radio knobs). So go pound sand, you have to wait now." The best part about the chrome wheels is that they come up with a substitute, polished aluminum wheels. "But we won't let you change your order to the polished aluminum because, well we don't really have a reason, just because. And you will still have to wait, so stop bothering us."
- Then after that the dealer says, "By the way, we are now charging MSRP plus $3,000.00"
- The doctor just told me I have a STD, Sky Tardy Delivery. He said, "Go to SKYROADSTER.COM, make two posts and call me in the morning."
- Oh, did I say that my mother-in-law is staying with us this week.
As far as tracking your car, could you not (if you have your VIN) just call Onstar and ask them to track your car? Or do you have to do some setup to the car itself when you sign up for Onstar? That way, you could actually track your car as it is on the carrier truck.

A "Skycam" would be quite interesting, but with GM stocks being forced out of trading on the exchange due to more accounting problems, and GMAC not being able to be sold, GM doesn't have any money to do anything right now. Seems like they would up the production of popular cars to make up some money, but that dosen't look like it's going to happen either.
