I’ve been trying to get an idea of how big of a spacer ring can be used to bring an 8” subwoofer forward without hitting the speaker panel. I’m just looking to get an idea on space so to get me by for this summer. I’ve read a 1/4” spacer works, but not sure how much more it can go? Trying to get a 4” subwoofer depth, but keeping the sub behind the panel for the time being. So might only be 3 1/2” or so with a 1/4 to 3/8” ring? Not worried about rattles, or any other issues at the moment. Hoping someone might know. Between the forums, there is surprisingly not a lot of intact info, short of doing more custom work. Currently cant drop my panel in the car etc to do the measurements.

TIA!

In your post you said 1/4” LOL. Well hopefully this weekend I’ll have a chance to do some measurements.

The factory sub itself has about a 1/2 deep grill over it, so at least that much. I originally bought a cheap Skar IX-8 and made a 1/2" spacer for it. The sub fit perfectly in the box with it, but on that sub, the surround sticks out another 3/8" at least and that would not clear the panel. I switched to a Pioneer TS-A2000LD2 which needs no spacer and clears the panel easily. The Skar was more "subwooferish" :) The Pioneer is more like a bass driver, but it's more musical.

I ordered up an 8” Alpine sub with a 1/2” spacer. See how that goes. Gotta finish getting my white LED’s installed in the steering wheel controls preferably first though.

I would love to see the details on that. If it is not asking too much, please add it into THIS POST for consolodation purposes.

To keep it simple, I elected to replace the steering wheel button pods with those from a Chevy Cobalt. The color is a light lime, much improved, closer to the other changes I made, but not ideal. At least they match my radio button illumination, done for the same reason.
