I've had my Sky at three different places in the past month and a half -- two different dealers and a body shop (someone hit my driver's side fender while I was parked and pushed it into the wheel well). I rarely use my trunk except when getting groceries, and we've been in the middle of moving, so I haven't done any grocery shopping. Imagine my surprise when I realized the other day, with a full cart, that I couldn't open my trunk!

The key fob has been getting worse over the past few months; the door lock buttons eventually died and then the trunk button stopped working, too. But I was always able to just open from the glove compartment button. Apparently that button became unhooked or disabled at one of those three repair locations, as it does absolutely nothing now -- no sound, no nothing.

It's a small trunk but I have stuff in it that I'd like out, and I'd like to be able to use it on occasion. :) I'm going to grab some alcohol tonight to try fixing the key fob as per the instructions here, but the glove compartment button would be nice to have, too. Might this just be a fuse that went loose or blew, or something that may have gotten unhooked when removing the front bumper? (I can't imagine, but still.) The front bumper has been re-seated, a new driver's side wheel well was installed, and my differential fluid was changed a couple times; that's all I've had done.

Any opinions?

The fob has a known defect. The battery holder / connector solder joint to the circuit board fails. You can pry the fob open and verify that the battery is or is not still connected. While you are at it, replace the battery.

The fact that the button on the dash does not release the trunk suggests that you may have a loose connection somewhere in the circuit that releases the trunk. One relatively easy thing to do is open the hood and make sure that the connectors on the bottom of the fuse box on the right side of the engine compartment are connected. Just push up on them firmly and give them a little wiggle.

Else have the dealer take a look at the wiring. It should be pretty easy to find the problem

I had the same problem. Try swapping one of the other relays that has the same part number on it that is in the fuse box in the engine compartment. If that does the trick just get another relay at the auot shore. I found that the relay for the trunk release had gone bad. Jerry

Yeah, I found that one out when I was out of town on a trip. It was great to open the fob up and have both the battery and battery terminal fall right out.:banghead:

To test the Key Fob as for “IF” it’s transmitting, you could stop in at your local Home Depot (at least ours had them) – for they have a Fob tester in their checkout line isle near the batteries – You first tell the tester as to if its RF or IF, then press your Fob to see if the unit detects it. Mighty nice!

The Fobs are also known to have the battery holder tab come loose from the PC Board – Re-solder and you’re good to go. Electronics Technology Electronic component Circuit component Electronic device

For the car, if you’re “hearing” a solenoid click but still no opening, lift the driver’s side flap (behind your head) and search for the cable / arm to manually release the latch. Auto part Vehicle Engine

If it’s the cables’ links under the rear sails that have failed, there are write-ups to create a tool to release them.

If you followed Bogie's advise and follow the link that he gave you, you would have discovered that someone else had the same problem as you and found that the fuse was blown. There is both a relay and a fuse. If the fuse is blown, you won't hear anything when you press the trunk release from your key fob or release button in the glove box because there is no electrical current flowing to the relay and release mechanism. Check your fuse first by looking into your manual to locate which fuse it is and which fuse block it is located in. If I am not mistaken, the one you want is under the hood.

Well i locked my keys in the trunk and the glove box was locked so i couldnt just push the button and my fob and glove box button works. Im just stupid for putting my keys in the trunk. So if anyone else out there is as stupid as me. Your not alone! So i read all these complicated but helpful ways to get in the trunk and thought i cant go in with a wire by the seat belt and i cant unscrew my glove box or pick the lock. Im a old lady and no man except my dog and he wont help.
So i just got pissed off and i love my sky. I went and found my skinniest flat head screw driver and i pulled on the glove lid just barely enuf to get my flat head in and slid it towards the button anside and WA LA! It popped the trunk and wings in 3 seconds and yes my keys were in the trunk. Not a scratch on the glove box. Now i feel like a very luck ol lady. Just wanted to share in case somebody was in a simular situation. Love reading all your comments in this foreum you guys are the best and your comments have helped me so many times. Just wanted to say thank you.

I did a similar thing several years ago, and solved it the same way. I was not as successful as you, however, and ended up with a scratch on the button. So, excellent job!

Just tell your dog that you will be happy to let him drive, as soon as the state issues him a driver's license.
