Okay folks! Here is our chance to maybe get back to the fun and excitement. Here's the challenge. You are anticipating your SKY's arrival (work with me here!). What do you imagine the delivery will be like? Who will be there with you? What pictures do you just HAVE to have taken. And most importantly, where is the very first place you will drive it? And who will be your passenger? Next challange. Describe your perfect day (encounter, whatever) with your SKY. Before you hit submit, remember this is a family oriented forum!
Ready? Set? GO!!!!
Have fun with this one!
Cheers,
Jill

Delivery day will probably be a festive amazing experience type atmosphere! I know I'll be a basket case. My husband and daughter will definitely be present! I know I'll want pictures of everything and everyone....hmmm...first place to drive it? Probably my parents house and then to my in-laws house. My seven year old daughter will definitely be the first passenger! The perfect day would be cloudless, temp in the mid seventies, something jazzy on the radio with good company by my side cruising down I45 on our way to Galveston to do lunch somewhere on the beach! Come on image!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the dealership hands me the keys, after all the corporate cheering, I get into the SKY say a small prayer and smoke the tires till I get to the street. Dam that felt good in my dreams. After the dealership hands me the keys and all the cheering subsides I take off in a cloud of smoke as I light those tires up. I just want to think about it some more. Will be back to you. Skip...

I have never bought a car from Saturn, so I look forward to my first "delivery date"...

After hearing my car should be here any day now...I pitch a tent in the front of the dealership and begin to play a mini version of "survival". I try to make alliances with key members of the facility to wake me when the "baby" is delivered. I shake off many attempts from "Wanabe first image" and "next in line deposit customers", from distracting me and bribing me for the first car. I survive daily on pizza deliveries so I don't miss one truck that may be carrying my SKY. The GM (Jeff Probst) invites me in for a challenge. I must be able to recite every color and option allocated for the car and if I can do it I win dinner with the sales team. Luckily a member of Skyroadster, I am able to not only complete the challenge in seconds...I actually include delivery codes, after market accessories, and give the address of the yellow SKY that has been cruising in the Michigan area. Thinking I have been the best "survivor" I am amazed to see Jeff probst (MY GM) put out my torch....I think I have lost, but no MY SKY HAS ARRIVED!

I immediately wake Pam Anderson up from my tent and throw her in the passenger's seat, the top is down...and then I put the cars top down! I sign many autographs (Finance Papers) and wave good bye to the team that I have bothered weekly with phone calls and emails. They flip me off and I ride with Pam into the sunset!!

Mine will be over 2 days. DAY ONE: I will be there when they offload it from the transport, watching ever so closely while they offload it. I will then jump up and yell, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! After which I will hug my wife,l GM and whoever else present, sdhake a lot of hands, say a lot of thanks. DAY 2: After the party at the dealer, where yours truly is the guest of honor, I will shake the GM"s hand and smile for the camera, he wants the local paper there, good wasy to advertise, the wife and I will strap in and drive away with smiles a s big as the state of Texas. After getting the feel, it will out to I20, hammer down. Points unknown just go!!!!!!!!!
then go home and take another nitro pill.. WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!

Remember that Whitesnake video "Here I Go Again" where there is the model dancing and rolling around on the hood of a flashy new Jaguar?

Enough said.

I think I'm going to go the classy, yet subtle way...

I show up to the dealership (with butterflies in my tummy), husband and daughter by my side. After wrapping up the paperwork, I put my sweaty palm in my husbands to walk out to the lot. Everyone gets excited, but I'm still anticipating what's ahead. They sit in it, they get out, they sit in it, they get out (about 4 or 5 times, including the dealer and my patient GM). Finally, when it comes to my turn, I kiss my husband, I put the scarf on my head (to keep the wind from blowing it into my face while I drive), put my sunglasses on, turn back and say, "see ya later" and head down Topanga Canyon, west, to Pacific Coast Highway, north, through Malibu. My choice of song will be on "repeat" and shall be "Blue Skies" by Ella Fitzgerald. I hope to get the Bluestone with the tan interior and tan top. I will need no cameras or pictures or passengers as I want to own that first memory for myself. Any pictures could not nearly express the joy and excitement I will have inside my soul on that first ride.

When I get back, I assume the whole gang (my family, including the folks) will be waiting for their rides in my SKY.

I actually bought a Blue Shirt that will go with Blue Stone. Hopefully my Step Daughter will have not left for college by then and will be with me and my wife. After I sign the papers I will have several pictures taken including one with me doing the "Speed Racer" pose! :D

Me and my wife will drive home via the Pacfic Coast Highway and then up through Topanga Canyon. :driving:

The CD will have the following songs: What A wonderful world, Blue Skies, Lucy in the Skys with Diamond (in this case it will be Nora) a couple of other songs yet to be determined. Of course the first song will be the original Speed Racer Song.

The Day The Baby Arrives

This day will be an agonizing torture of a 2 1/2 drive to the dealership to make the deal and get the car! There will be tears of joy, lots of screaming, and over all anxiousness to get the keys and go away!! Since I am picking it up from a very nice vacation area, my best friend will be taking the train to meet me there, and we will then spend 2 days having a BLAST sporting around.:driving: But then comes the bad part....a 2 1/2 drive home!!!!!
Great way to top her out and have a great drive, but puts miles on her that I really don't want to. Trust me when I tell you, 20 years from now, you will see this car at a Barret-Jackson auction pulling BIG bucks for an unmolested low miles baby!

Picking up my Sky

It will be a Saturday Afternoon, I will arrive with my wife Via Taxi at the Saturn Dealer, My car will be sitting out front, roped off from a huge crowd around it. we stroll into the dealership, I go into the sales managers office, sign the papers, go to the finance office and get my 0% loan approved, the sales manager and all the salespersons follow me out, they part the crowd for me, I open the door, my wife gets in, I walk around to the other side and get in, I start it up, rev it lightly, the salespersons, take the rope down and I slowly start moving forward, the crowd starts applauding and I pull out of the parking lot, traffic comes to a halt.... I then proceed to the local cruise-in where I park next to a brand new MX-5 Miata... of which from that point on is invisible, after about 30 minutes the owner of the Miata gets mad and jumps in his car and tears out spinning his tires, where a local cop pulls him over and writes him a big ticket.... this is him afterwards:banghead: "I could of had a SKY!!!"

Angel, just be careful with the scarves! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0241984/bio

I'll be driving straight into Brooklyn. There, I'll pick up a fraternity brother from work and we'll head off to Ringwood, NJ for some skeet shooting. The roads to get up there are really twisty and fun. I'll probably swing by Splash on my way back through Manhattan for a quick toast to the new ride (can't do guns and alcohol w/o liquor!) and head home, where I'll likely spend that first night on an air mattress in the garage.

Mr. Rick Please come to Pick up your SKY

I will have (most likely) my brother drop us (Wife and myself) off. He will (most likely) sneak a peek. Since our Saturn Store always parks the delivery cars on the floor (roped off) we will stop to look at her (yes it's a she). My wife will chide me once more for buying car that is totally impractical and decadent. I will agree.
The next hours or so will be the paperwork. After which the dealer will take pics at the car. I'll have one taken with my phone which I will send to a predetermined group and my online album. I'll start it up -- drive out amidst applause and drive it once or twice around the block (to acclimate and make sure all is AOK).:driving: Then we go out somewhere where we can have something to eat and still see her, perhaps even a drive-in and eat inside (yes I do that).
My first road trip will most likely be to my son who lives about 130 miles from me. Also I am planning to take some weekends and travel Illinois to find some of the most haunted places in the state.
Oh yes at some point, my wife will look at me and say "This car is Tits..." :jester:
Sorry -- I know this is a family site -- but we are old enough to drive anyway...):driving:

Oh yes the standard joke will be "Who gets bathed more? Rick or his car?"

My dealership wants to get something special together for the day I pick up BABY. I myself am one thats not prone to fanfare or excitement so I'll just go along until it's time to start it up and leave. I hope my son 6'4" tall and long legged, my daughter, who can't drive a standard, will be there to watch me and my wife, who by the way was weened on standards, drive off to destinations unknown  . I'll probably book a weeks holidays so that we don't have to interrupt the moments. Better get them vacuum style luggage bags:cool:

 Once notified I will try desperately to contain my excitement as I tell my wife "it is time to go the baby is here!" I will grab the pre-arranged items (digital camera, sunglasses, leather jacket, and driving gloves) and bolt out the door. We will get into our 2003 Saturn Vue for the 45 minute ride to Saturn of Waco of which the wife will have to drive to ensure I do not turn it into a 15 minute drive. Upon arrival I will ogle over the SKY profusely leaving long enough only to handle the paperwork and acquire the keys. After whatever fan fare that may ensue by spectators and my dealer I will ensure that my wife (the first passenger) is ready and we will take off around town for a bit. Head back to the dealer and see if any at the dealership wants a ride. Once all rides are complete I will take the long way home further enjoying the ride in my SKY. Thank you Baby Girl.

WE have made arangements for the dealer to pick us up at our home. My wife and I have purchased the car for our 40th anniversary and our kids and family are not onto us yet. We want to cruise by the family and friends and show our new gift off. We most likely will head to the coast, stay the night in a hotel and act like we are on our honeymoon (may just take some viagra along) My wife has told me she will drive it to work first!! Hey after this long why argue. But I have visitation rights on the weekend.
Great topic. I've enjoyed all the comments. Maby we could have a Reunion around the end of May somewhere central. Or, at least have Regional Meetings each year with Sky Trekkies.

That sounds like a great idea. Maybe those in the SoCal area should all take their Sky's up the coast through Malibu all the way to Santa Barbara maybe hit the Elephant Bar for a MaiTai (or two) to celebrate. The Solstice group in the area has already made a similar trip (or is planning one). I think I will continue north from there maybe to San Simeon (Hearst Castle) before returning home. That should use up the good part of two days anyway.

Nit pick every little bad detail on the car, and more than likely will have to take it back to the service shop for repairs of all the factory problems.

Have not purchased a new car to date that didn't have some kind a problem right from the start. Not Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Acura, Mitsubishi have delivered one correct to me yet; why would Saturn be any different.

After that is finally through, I can then take it home and enjoy it.

OK, so I see my delivery experience going a little different than most.

I drive up to my dealer and I notice a bunch of activity, huge banners and even a band playing and I notice that on all of the signs they say "Congrats Ernest on your new Sky!" (See, my dealer owns Ernest's dealership too!) I see Ernest still sitting in his Sky with babes all around worshiping him, and I'm able to walk into the dealership totally unnoticed. But, as I walk by Ernest, I notice the GM taking a look at Ernest popping his nitro pills like they're peanuts and I almost imagine him saying to himself "you know I've been riding the Ernest gravy train too long, I need to diversify a little...hey who's the guy sitting in that new Yellow Sky in the showroom...I think I'll just give him that one on the house to start up a new gravy train!"

Then as I'm driving through the crowd that is still dancing to Ernest's band, I notice Richmcc on the other side of the crowd still sitting in a red Sky with the top down and his elbow out the window.

I drive past a SnowyBeast complaing about how hot it is down in Texas, I see a cute saleperson working the crowd with tight blue jeans on and a nametag that I can barely make out that says Jill, I think.

I'm still slowly riding the clutch through the crowd when I see Brentil standing next to a beautiful Malletized Solstice and yelling to me something like, "I'll trade you even, this rocket for your awesome yellow Sky", and I just nod, smile and tip my red Saturn hat in his direction!

I'm finally almost off of the lot when I hear I_want_my_sky_now yelling "Yo, TexaSky, you're lying about ordering that Yellow Sky that you are driving!" And right behind him there's a siver haired guy with a tag that says "Supermoderator...and you're NOT!" and he's reading I_want_my_sky_now the forum riot act.

Then, I look both ways, drive off the lot and swear I'm never buying a car that looks so cool again!

I don't just want to be there for the doctor to hand her to me. I want to see the truck pull into the dealership with a load of Sky. I'd be even happier if I could watch her built. I'd like to walk down the line as each piece is put on her. I'd want to be there to turn the key as the engine comes to life for the first time! Oh God I need a smoke.
