Lil chromies installation hint

2242 Views 15 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Sky Hi
Just installed the Lil chromies door lock pulls. I had to heat the original plastic pulls with a hair dryer before they would unscrew. They were quite stubborn to remove.

Also a reminder, you need to hit the unlock button twice for the passenger side to unlock. I had a scare for a minute!

congrats...
I pretty much ordered the same SKY as you (sans the spoiler). got any pics up yet?? I'm curious about the kappashield and cai too. Feel free to share any thoughts...if you aren't too busy cruising :)
Windscreen

do not order the windscreen yet...something to knock your socks off will be posted next week...etching of the sky profile in the windscreen with LED's...a little patience..the web site is almost ready to go...I just received a copy of the etchings and they r amazing...

CAI installed

I just installed the CAI. It was pretty straight forward, no big deal. Also removed the front license plate bracket. It was riveted on under the lip of the bumper and had sticky tape backing between the plate holder and the bumper.

I'd take it out for a drive but its raining tonight. Will report tomorrow how the CAI sounds. I'll also try to post some pictures tomorrow.

I'm giving the interior shiny plastic pieces a coat of wax for protection, while it's dust free. I really like the piano black surfaces, they really stand out against the black interior. I don't think pictures will capture that.
windscreen

I already have the Kappasphere windscreen. That installation is next. I am going to be careful with this because it looks like it will fill the crack between the trunk and the panel behind the seats. I don't want any rubbing on the paint. I guess it's time to read the instructions. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
i also ordered the silver pearl with black leather...post or send pics...give me your honest opinion, if that is possible of the finish of the silver pearl...I hope to have mine at the end of this month....

Windscreen installed

The windshield installation was very simple. The thickness of the screen does flatten out the weatherstripping, but there is no rubbing interference. The side of the screen toward the seats has pads on it to prevent scratching. Looks good. It matches the contours on the trunk just fine. The trunk closes a little harder, but you just need some velocity on it when you close it.
Silver Pearl opinion

MarlboroMike,
We like the silver pearl a lot. It matches the windshield frame and seat back panel. It also matches the shift console and wheels on ours. The paint quality is very good. The pearl catches the light and is quite striking. The chrome trim accents it without overdoing it.
We all have our opinions, and I'm sure all the colors will look good on this car. We are very happy with the silver and would order it again.
The black leather interior is also nice. We were undecided on all black or black / red. When this car became available we said black it is! The piano black inserts provide a nice contrast to the rest of the interior. The Leather seats are stitched with silver thread, which also looks great.
Hope this helps, and your car arrives soon.
heads turn!

As a side note, today we experienced the phenomenon that other owners are having. When you drive down the road, heads turn and people stare. It kinda fun!
This is a cool car.
thanks for making me feel good...I was unsure of the silver pearl...I did order originally the forest green but when i saw it on the solstice, i was disappointed...at least i was able to change it to silver...just wanted to make sure that silver pearl will make me happy...

Hmmm,

Silver stitching, NICE! I might have to think about getting that Kappashield as well. Are you leaving it on with the top up as well, or removing it like in their instructions?
ON a side note, do you still own the TR6? This is one of my Dad's alltime favorite cars (TR4s and TR6s) He's actually looking to buy one right now. I guess there are a few out there that are pretty decent deals. Just curious.
must remove windscreen

I just checked the windscreen while raising the top. You must remove it, because it touches the rear window on the top. I'm not sure how others claim theirs can stay on. The angle of the panel that it attaches to determines the position, and that is where the rear window lands.

At least this screen comes with a nice storage pouch for the trunk and it slides on and off easily.

Does it really help cut down the wind?
I just got the car yesterday and have only been out with the top down with the shield installed. The cockpit was free from buffeting and quite pleasant. Oh by the way, the temperature today was 39F! The heater works great.

There was a lot less wind than our TR6.
