I agree that a system is needed. My Saturn dealer in Indy has been great to deal with since 1991 but they sure didn't make any effort to supply me with any codes along the way. I'd call about once a month and all I could get was generic comments like the order has been accepted or it's being built. This was the case on the base as well as my Redline. I still think they are a great dealership but that is an area that needs addressed. :driving:

Mike and I agree ... once again. What started out positive turned cool like Mike said, mainly the dealer's lack of communication. This forum, with its members, saved the day from me walking away mid-wait. Now that I owned this terrific car .. I tell everyone it was worth the wait. But the cost to set-up a consumer web tracking system is doable and the cost is something Mini/BMW felt was worth the investment in its customers.

I for one would like to have been able to track my RL on the internet. My dealer has not been forth coming with info. I have had to prod him (the Sales Mgr.). They have never contacted me on their own. I ordered my RL on 05/15 and when I stopped in mid december he said the he was getting 3 allocations and he hoped one of them was an RL. I asked him to keep me posted, but have not heard from them???? I don't want to be a pest, I am not impatient and can wait (for Spring) but it would be nice to be kept abreast. My dealing with Saturn does leave a less than favorable impression.

Mini Does it!!

Sure, but sadly it ain't gonna happen. No manufacturer currently provide this info on any vehicle currently produced that I know of over the net--It is a completely internal system on there part-But yea, great idea but--:nono:
Actually, my Mini Cooper S was completely trackable on their website. So that is not true. All they need to do is make a web interface for a database system they are already using. The car gets barcode scanned all through the process from what other people have said on this forum, for internal tracking.

Something is strange

I really think they want to keep us in the dark on how they distribute cars. It may not be a completely fair system. I see some people get their cars so fast and others are waiting months. They distribute to the states and then the dealers in those states on some kind of unusual cycle. I am really wondering were my Redline is lately, being that I ordered it the same time as my father, Nov 1, 2006. My dad got his Dec 9th. Is that because he ordered a less common color combo (White with blk/tan)? I ordered the Silver Pearl with Blk/Red interior. Both got ordered with the same options from the same dealer. He told me so far my Old mans car is the only Redline he got.
I dont get it. But he is getting me my order number on Monday and I am going to get to the bottom of this once and for all. If I have to drive down to Delaware and talk to someone in person.

Corvette Summer was my favorite Movie when I was a teen. I will go after it!

Codes???

Sorry all, but I could care less what the code is!! I would much prefer that they spent the money building the cars. This has soured me on Saturn. Waiting 5 months for any car is rediculous. If it isn't here shortly I'm headed to the local Vette dealer. :willy:

How is waiting 5 months for a car ridiculous? Honestly, some of us waiting way longer than that. My wife and I's wait was almost 8 months from when we put our deposit down in May. But it was well over a year ago when we started getting the earliest rumors about the Redline model.

If you try to order any limited supply car, you'll have that problem. Mitsu Evo's can be like that when they first come out, as can new generations of Vettes, Vipers, and most other 'hot' roadsters/sports cars. The difference is that most of the cars had previous model years, so a lot of people who want one, might buy used instead of waiting in line for a new one. The SKY is so new, there isn't a pool of used vehicles for some buyers to go to, so everybody's gotta wait in line for the new ones.

Personally, I like the idea that this car is just as hot as some of those other cars that cost 2x as much or more.

I say, if you can afford the 'Vette, and the wait for the SKY bothers you the smallest bit, then you should probably buy the 'Vette, as I would guess you wouldn't be happy with the SKY in the long run anyways.

Saturn can not make some things public in order to protect the future owners.
However your sales consultant should assist you with the info you need.

That's the whole point of this thread. MANY sales consultants either don't want to bothered with trying to keep their customers updated, or have no clue HOW to do it. Besides, it is the Manager at each dealer that is the only one to have access to the system to pull the codes. This becomes an annoying and tedious task for the Manager.

It would be SUPER easy for Saturn to set-up a website where you could put in your 6 digit order number, and it would kick out a list of codes and dates. Doesn't have to have any other information than that. There should be no privacy issues there at all.

What do you expect on a limited production car?

I doubt Saturn would consider having a tracking system for the Sky. GM doesn't even have one for Vettes as far as I know.

My 2 cents

My experience in ordering my SKY seems to have been a bit different from most. Would I have liked to track my cars build process - sure. Was I was able to get all the information I needed from my Sales Manager and Salesperson - you bet.

Granted I did not call every week, well in the beginning anyway, and both were very willing to share the info when I asked. I was even able to pass on some info I picked up here and they were glad to get it.

I was even able to get on the wait list, place the order in the 'system' and get an allocation with no deposit. I guess since I was a repeat customer they believed I'd really buy the car. That or they felt sure it would sell if I decided not to go through with the deal. It made me a bit nervous in the beginning after reading some of the horror stories here about signed contracts, dealer add ons, etc. but when I saw my name on the order and the free exchange of information when I requested it, I was very happy.

In my case, the Saturn buying experience measured up as expected.

:D

We are really close to setting up our internet website so our customers can get their updates on their Sky order. Site really looks good. We may even be able to download from Saturns updates to us which would make it really cool. We have about 100 waiting so it would make our life easier and our customers too. Will keep you posted.

Sky Info

Can certainly understand the frustration getting information on your Sky. The problem is the limited information the dealership gets GM. Once the order is placed the estimated production date is posted a week or two prior. Once built we're at the mercy of the shippers. I've waited 2 weeks to get a car from the holding yard in Kent to the dealership in Bellevue about 20 miles away. The real key is your salesman and manger. If your unsure who to deal with check the dealerships CSI scores. I'm suprised at the waiting times posted for Sky redlines. We're currently at approximately a 2 year wait with about a 6 month wait on the Sky. Saturn had hinted they were increasing production Jan. 1 but i've not heard any more about it. We've only recieved 2 redlines but understand the east coast have recieved more than the west. What can you do but wait.:banghead:

WHY DON'T YOU GO TO YOUR VETTE DEALER THEN!
You have to understand that this is a limited production car. The plant only has a capability of 35000 vehicles per year and they supply, U.S Europe & Asia. This is also very frustrating for us, "the dealers" but we have to accept the reality. So stop blaming "US" for your impatiance, I suspect you were spoiled as a child? Well It's time to grow up.

For what it's worth:

It probably would not be that hard to wrap GM's current codes into a user friendly web interface. We all know the data is there in one of their systems, and it has high availability. How else would all those GM Dealers get it on demand eh?

As long as you're not looking for them to do "Advanced" tracking with their 3rd party carriers, it's just a matter of exposing data they already have.

I mean, that's what people are saying isn't it, "let me track the event codes myself?" Why over complicate it. I would think if they set it up so you must have an order number, that would work. Or you must register first and associate your order with your online profile. That'd work too for those dealers that don't give you your order number. (jerks)

Bottomline: It's a horse apiece. It's easy to do, and there are good reasons to do it. It exposes business data, and that is always a risk. My professional opinion: probably not going to happen anytime soon, unless you get a hold of the right people at GM, AND they give a hoot about your needs and wants.

Computer and Internet Tracking

I really don't know what the issue is about providing sensitive information nor about limited production cars. It is corporate issue that has to do with willingness to service customers. When you order a BMW, limited edition or not, you can get or the dealer gives you your order number. You can go to the BMWUSA site and enter the owner's circle and track the production of your car no matter which country it is being made. I tracked the production and shipping of my limited production Z8 (13 months from order to delivery), I tracked the production and shipping of my 530 xi T sports wagon. My best friend was able to track the production and shipping of his 2006 BMW 330i. All of these cars were made in Germany. My daughter was able to track the production, shipping and delivery of her BMW X5 which is made in S.C. Our local dealer manager and the sales personnel love the system because they don't have to answer the inevitable questions about what is happening with me car. The system even tells you when it is at the dealer! Through all of that BMW doesn't provide any sensitive information about productio, etc. The system tells you what stage of production your car is in and is updated at each change in the process. The in my case when it was put on the ship, when it arrived at Baltimore, the when it was put on the truck, etc.

So the system can be done and maybe other manufacturers have such systems. I don't know. IMHO...it is such a simple thing to do and add to the Saturn.com site and would be a great service to those who order cars and have to wait months and months to get them...

Go to ilovemysaturn.com and you will see how we are tracking our customer's orders for Skys and other Saturns. We will update this site weekly for our customers. It's still a work in progress, so there may be some quirks in the site. So far our customers like it.:) It looks like we will be making a few more this year and the distribtIon will get better for the warm weather areas of the country. The new Astra will be shown in Chicago next week. Very sharp!

Maybe that's KimberlySky's dealer. :p Awfully unwilling to be helpful. Not a dealer I'd want to have anything to do with given that comment.

"Man, our jobs would be freakin' great, if it weren't for all these darn customers."
