Mullholland-PCHTrip.jpg

Here is tentative route for the trip. The lettered markers are NOT planned stops, I needed them to force Yahoo Maps to conform to the trip.:banghead:

It is 133 miles layed out as a round trip. Yahoo estimates as a 3 hour 14 minute trip. I would say with stops and possible traffic it maybe closer to 6 hours.

I am going to scout it out maybe this weekend or next.

So for the Questions:

1) Who is interested?

2) Is Saturday or Sunday better for you?

3) Any weekend preferable or impossible?

This is going to be some  :driving:!

Sundays would be prefered by me, I usually work on Saturdays, but I think I can work something out.
So count me in

Count me in. Either Saturday or Sunday. And just about any weekend except the last in July.

Cool!

If I have two I will let you borrow one of mine. Probably the slow one.

(Yeah. Right. Like I'm gonna have my Red Line by then. Ha!)

My Scouting trip

Okay I tried to run the Route I originally spec'd out. What I found was the last part of Mullaholland Dr was either a gravel or a paved road in serious disrepair.

So I am thinking, we take Mullholand as far as we can then take Ventura blvd. to Topanga Canyon. I will post a new map later.

Anyways here are some pictures of Mullohand Dr Scenery and twisties.

Here are some pics of Topanga and PCH

I tried to auto frame advance some pictures while my wife drove, to give a feeling of some of the curves. Here are some slideshows I will let you be the judge.

Looks good to me also. I do have some concern about dumping out onto PCH in the late afternoon. Traffic is at a standstill at that time and weekends are worse. I almost think a start in Santa Monica or the Palisades would make for a smoother trip. Lots of options though.

late this month perhaps?

i'm on the road until late july...would like to hookup later this month and will have two other kappa cars with me....

by the way if we head north on PCH and return via the 101 is a much better drive than heading into santa monica on a late part of the weekend day....

Mullholland PCH run Official Date - 8/05/2006

I decided to the do the run on August 5, 2006. I choose Saturday because I thought Tolaiz's argument about needing to recover the next day was valid. Also because on the first run we lost half the crew at 5:00pm.

Here is General idea of the Route.

We leave Bob's Big Boy at 12:30 -1:00 get there by 11:00 if you want eat there before we leave.
Take Barham Bvld > Cuhanga to Mullholland.
Take Muholland as far as it goes, then to Ventura.
We then take Ventura to Topanga and pick up Mullholland again.
We follow Mullholland to Los Virgenes taking Malibu Canyon to PCH (This will avoid most of the traffic on PCH.)
We then Take PCH into Oxnard.

I still need to find some places for us to eat for dinner and a possible mid-afternoon snack.

Here is map of the route.

The section of Mullholland I am adding at the beginning has really beautiful scenery. Also Malibu Canyon is breathtaking (I understand the mountains were used as the backdrop for the MASH TV show.)

I think that would be a proctologist to deal with the ol' pain in the pooper, right? She is gonna be better than new, and... er... "sitting pretty."
