My husband and I had a rare day off together and I tortured the poor man into a drive to Wilmington. We live about 90 miles away and had no trouble finding the plant. There have be between 100 and 200 SKYs in the lot closest to the plant (the SOLs were a lot closer to the road). I was about 100 feet from the "shake and rattle" testing area. Every 45 - 60 seconds a SOL came out and went through the rumble strips and bumps. And yes, every so often out came a SKY. It was probably a 10:1 ratio. One of the SOL's had a noticeable frontend rattle. The driver took it over the course a couple of times and then pulled over and lifted the hood. Next thing, a SKY pulls up beside him and they compare fender attachments. The SKY driver took over the SOL and the original driver started talking to me. He asked if I had driven one yet (no of course) and said it was too bad I couldn't come over the fence(no kidding!). Said we're gonna love the SKY, really fun to drive. He recommended the automatic transmission - said it shifts up through the gears really fast. I asked when they plan to start shipping. He wouldn't say an actual date, but did say these cars are now considered "saleable".
These 2 then went back into the plant and out came a string of 4 SKYs to be tested. One had a Delaware license plate on it. They sounded awesome. The SKYs seem to have a little throatier exhaust than the SOLs. They were really putting them through their paces! After almost an hour, my husband was kind of impatient to leave, so I reluctantly got back in the car. On the way out, the SKY with the DE plate was 2 cars ahead of us. Unfortunately, my husband didn't feel that was any reason to go through a red light! So close, yet so far!!!
