My Roadtrip to Wilmington

My husband and I had a rare day off together and I tortured the poor man into a drive to Wilmington. We live about 90 miles away and had no trouble finding the plant. There have be between 100 and 200 SKYs in the lot closest to the plant (the SOLs were a lot closer to the road). I was about 100 feet from the "shake and rattle" testing area. Every 45 - 60 seconds a SOL came out and went through the rumble strips and bumps. And yes, every so often out came a SKY. It was probably a 10:1 ratio. One of the SOL's had a noticeable frontend rattle. The driver took it over the course a couple of times and then pulled over and lifted the hood. Next thing, a SKY pulls up beside him and they compare fender attachments. The SKY driver took over the SOL and the original driver started talking to me. He asked if I had driven one yet (no of course) and said it was too bad I couldn't come over the fence(no kidding!). Said we're gonna love the SKY, really fun to drive. He recommended the automatic transmission - said it shifts up through the gears really fast. I asked when they plan to start shipping. He wouldn't say an actual date, but did say these cars are now considered "saleable".
These 2 then went back into the plant and out came a string of 4 SKYs to be tested. One had a Delaware license plate on it. They sounded awesome. The SKYs seem to have a little throatier exhaust than the SOLs. They were really putting them through their paces! After almost an hour, my husband was kind of impatient to leave, so I reluctantly got back in the car. On the way out, the SKY with the DE plate was 2 cars ahead of us. Unfortunately, my husband didn't feel that was any reason to go through a red light! So close, yet so far!!!

This is the best news yet!
Silver Anniversary ...

... did the guy you spoke to say they were putting the automatics in the Skys yet?
He said they "ran" a SKY automatic and SKY 5 speed against each other and the auto. was awesome - faster than the stick. He didn't actually state they're in production, but he was trying to talk me into one for my image.
What a day? I live in Indiana and if I were closer I too would be stalking the plant. If we could only get spies cruising the plant daily it would sure help the pain of waiting. GM doesn't feed us anything. They are treating us like mushrooms and keeing us in the dark.

Thanks for a really great thread. Have you got any buddies up that way that could take turns cruising? It seems like the ones on this forum that live in the area don't have the time to cruise by on a regular basis and give us feeback.
I did feel a little like a stalker and kept waiting for someone to come out and run us off. But the guys who talked to me were really friendly and encouraging. I don't know anyone else crazy enough to run down there, but I'm working on my husband for another roadtrip!
I'm located in the southern part of New Jersey, and Delaware is just about an hours drive on I-295 South from where I live (or I could also take the NJ Turnpike <-- yikes! ). I've been considering going on a roadtrip down to the plant to see the yard for myself. I think you've finally inspired me to do that sometime soon!
I highly recommend it. And my husband thought I talked about the SKY a lot before! I can't stop smiling and I didn't stop talking the whole way home.
I wanted Silver Pearl because this is my present for our 25th anniversary - but that black one was HOT! Too bad a silver one didn't make a run while we were there. Maybe I better check our calendars for another road trip...
ssssshhhhwwwwweeeeeeeetttttt!
Love these spy pics, did you notice what color Sky's were coming out of the plant? I am looking fro a midnight blue with tan top and chrome wheels :)
I'll try to leave a little early for work tomorrow and grab a couple pictures. I only live about a mile from the plant, but don't get back home until after it is dark.

What part of the plant were you looking into (i.e. what street were you on)? I drive down Centerville Road on the way to work, but haven't seen the cars from that street...

On another note - the road in my avatar is also centerville road, which turns into a beautiful road about two miles north of the plant. It is one of the main roads I can't wait to drive on with the top down!!

I think we were on Boxwood. We went past the front where the 2 Solstii are displayed and then turned left on the next public road. Drove along the fence and there they were at the end.
And Tim, they weren't driving any, but I saw blue/tan in the lot. Look in the middle of the first pic - about the third row. Maybe she's yours????

I have my eye on a red one with a black top but it seems they mainly have tan roofs. My husband says take either so I guess that is what I'll do. :)
I can see it now out side the plant half the forum with signs saying "We want our SKY's now" "Bring them to the gate we will drive them home" "We want SKY not dirt". Oh what have we started now. They are climbing the fence. They are in the cars. OMG they did it . ... The security guards look befuduled. We got the SKY's. :jester: :jester:  Skip....
