Here is the SCCA National Race schedule:

July 31, Friday
7 groups qualify (plenty of racing to watch) there will be 2 qualify sessions for
each group, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The "1" fastest lap of the 2 sessions determines the pole position for the race to be held on Saturday. The Solstice runs in the SSB (showrrom stock B class) in group #5.

Fridays Car Corral Tribute

the following was forwarded to me by a good friend. I'd like to share this with you If the red shirt thing is new to you. Please read below on how it went for a man...

While traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded.
Heading out I asked?

No. I'm escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?
No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I'm taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family.. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign."

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast major ity of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that ... every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make theUnited States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is. "We need your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

Race Day At Lime Rock

Hundreds of race cars, a packed day of races – and helping our veterans

One of the SCCA’s biggest race days on the East Coast is Saturday at Lime Rock Park! Every class of car that’s eligible for National Run-offs points will be here. That means everything from big-bruiser GT1s to Sports Racers and Formula Fords. Jam-packed racing from 9:00am until 6:00pm. This is great amateur racing, and it’s only $15 for the day (as always, kids 12 and under get in free).

PLUS... this is the biggest day for the racing community to help Veteran Homestead.

Veteran Homestead is a non-profit charity that assists veterans with medical, psychological and spiritual care. Rehab, training, education and hospice care are all part of the mission.

Veteran Homestead hopes to collect donations to keep the care going, so at Lime Rock this Saturday there will be raffles, contests, prizes – including getting some Hot Laps on the track – as well as pro racing star Eric Curran (ALMS, NASCAR Camping World East, Grand-Am, SCCA et al.) in attendance to sign autographs.

Come see great racing this Saturday, 1 August at Lime Rock Park, thanks to the Mohawk-Hudson Valley Region of the SCCA. And help an important cause, Veteran Homestead.

Kappa Car Corral

WHAT A WEEKEND...

The weather sure made it a challenge for many people to attend on Friday. The off and on again rain made it difficult to fairly judge the cars that attended. Eleven cars and GM cars were nicely displayed in the rain. We did have a few moments were we did get a chance to check out how people customized their vehicles. A few were heavilly modified and all of them real winners..

The opportunity to met and talk with other car owners was great. Many Thanks to our host Bob Demers of the Mid-Way Racing Team and Lime Rock Park for providing us with a great location. After a fanastic BBQ in the paddock Bob did qualify for his race in heavy rain.

Saturday the racing action was very intense and exciting, The Mid-Way Solstice # 1 was running in second place and gaining fast on the leader with several laps remaining. Due to an incident on the track the race was Red And Black flagged closing the event for emergency vehicles for 20 minutes. EMS staff handled a serious crash and the track cleanup went extremely well given the incident. Thankfully the drivers were OK and were checked out for injuries. The race was Checkered Flag with a few more laps remaining and Bob Demers placed Second.

Follows a few pictures. Bob is racing again in New Hampshire in late September. I will post the info and maybe someone closer to NHMSP will offer to assist in coordinating another event like this past weekend, minus the rain.
