Our order is in - er I think?

Got the call today from our salesman. He has really been great. He said it's time to order. I ask if we could do it over the phone and he said. "Well, the GM already put the order in, I think." I ask if it was accepted with chrome wheels. He didn't know. I ask him what the GM told him about the order, he said he said nothing. Hmmmm . . . was it entered into the computer? Salesman said don't know. Hmmmm . . is the GM there? "No, he went home early." Could you call me tomorrow with a little info? "Er. sorry, I'm off tommorrow." I told him I would call the GM tomorrow and ask him. Salesman said, " He's off tomorrow also."

I hope the GM ordered what my wife and I want? Why would management treat their salesman like mushrooms, keep them in the dark and feed them BS.

I better calm down, I got 2 months or more of waiting with no info, to endure. :banghead:

Guess I should be thankfull I got an image. Or did I?

Turk, that kind of traffic from your salesman would make me NUT up. I hope you get a clear response tomorrow, and I hope you'll be able to sleep in the meantime!

:agree: It almost makes you wonder why in the heck your salesrep even bothered calling you if he didn't know anything?!?!? :willy: :banghead: Keep us posted on what you find out...on THURSDAY. :D
Your Salesman is no alone

This has been happening quite often..I have heard the same thing from other people..up in the Northeast
Just to let you know, my salesman had no idea what stage my car was out. Only the new car manager. So I had to let him know what was up by the info I got off this forum. He even had no idea that GM had announced last week that they were done taking any orders after the current images were ordered. After I informed him, he talked to the new car mgr and called me back. He said, yes they were already aware of this.
Here is today's update on our image:

Hey! Looks like it is almost built... Practically.... Just about.:D
Whoa Whoa Whoa!

When did GM announce they weren't taking any more orders?!?!?

I went in to order a Sky on the 17th (last Monday). So now I'm concerned that I really don't have an order in.....

Don't get all in an uproar...
First were you on a list? What is your dealer’s allocation? Where are you on that list? EG: they are getting 20 cars and you are 15 on that list.
If that is the case you should have no problem. When talk of GM saying "sold out" it is because the allocations are spoken for. Remember only 7000-10000 SKYs are being made (here I go again) that is only .06% of cars built in one year. A very tiny/miniscule amount. If you are not on a list or not sure - Find out and or shop around. My dealer told me he has 10 cars allocated and 37 people waiting for them... 27 people will not get a SKY. Unless they go to other dealers and see if they can get on their lists.

Now, for your case -- #1 question - Do you have an order number?? - It will be 3 letters and three numbers (see my signature = GGG802) that means that yes you have an actual order (you have "Imaged"). If you just gave a deposit and the dealer said he'd order it -- tell him you want you Order Number. This is the only way you will know for sure that you have an order.

I know I am #5 in my area (Las Cruces, NM) to get a Sky but I don't know how many are being allocated. I guess I will have to call this morning and find out. Last I heard my car was in the process of imaging, whatever that means. He said it would be imaged this week. I'm thinking I need to talk to some kind of manager instead of my salesperson. Poor guy doesn't seem to know much about what's going on. I called last Friday to ask him the status of my order and he started telling me it was ordered, but someone else stopped him and told him it was still imaging.

I guess I need to be patient like everyone else. I just hope I got in there before the cut off!

If he is saying it will be imaged this week -- at least they are saying the right stuff... But, yes the GM is often the guy who is driving the SKY orders. As a matter of fact my normal Saturn Sales guy's name is my inhouse (at the dealer) order number...:D Tell them you will not believe you have an order untill you get the number (3 letters/3 numbers). You will be AOK it sounds like... Be  soon enough you'l be :driving: a SKY!
It will be a long time (months) before there is REALLY a "cutoff"

I talked to my salesman thismorning. He had no idea what "imaging" meant. He told me I definately have a chassis. I asked him to get me the order number from the GM (3 alpha 3 numeric). According to him I'm looking at a production date in August of this year. I would not be supprised to find out that I am not imaged as yet.
Saturn of Columbus Oh told us they bhave an 80 car allotment. Acording to their web site they have 7 delivered, 17 in production & 37 on order. That leaves 19 left to order. They are taking a $500 deposit.
I talked to my dealer this morning and he said not to worry I'm in the allocation. So PHEW! Emergency tended to.

Thanks for all your help!

I'd definitly say you are not imaged yet -- but it sounds like you definitely gaurenteed a SKY.
U P D A T E ! :

Talked to my salsman yesterday and he said "Let me check with the GM!." He came back on the phone and said that when the GM ask for the info from me the other day, he really didn't put an order in, he just put the description for the order into General Motors new computer system. I ask him if I had an image. He said that they don't use images anymore and that he was not sure my car actually was ordered, just entered. I ask him where I was on the list - he didn't know. :banghead:

Makes ya want to buy Saturn, doesn't it?

Has the system for ordering changed at all? Is saturn still sending out images or is it called something else?

Yes, the system has changed. As of April 17th, Saturn is now using the GM Workbench ordering system...instead of the old Saturn ordering system. Don't know about the terminology for "images", though...I was under the impression that hadn't changed. But maybe I'm wrong....
You know Turk -- I think the terminology may have changed -- but it DOES sound like you have been "Imaged". If it was entered and is waiting for acceptance -- it sure sounds right. Ask to be kept in the loop. I found a low pressure approach is good. I vowed to my GM that I'd only request status once a week, but if he saw major changes (like my VIM or that it codes as built) to email me. He has been very good and has answered emails with in 24 hours. In fact the last email he answered in 15 minutes!
