Placed a deposit

I stopped by my dealer today and was told that they were taking $50 deposits for a waiting list. The deposit is fully refundable. Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else wanted to check with their dealers. Still no firm availability date. Just early 2006. But I figured I'd go ahead and get on the list (I'm #2). They told me they didn't know if they'd be able to place custom orders but that they had been told they'd be getting 1 to 2 cars a month and the people on the list get first pick based on how high you are on the list. That's about it for now, guess it's just wait and see time.

Later,
Brad

What state/dealer did you go to? The dealership over here (HI) isn't taking any sort of deposit or preorders yet, and two other dealerships (one in CA and another in MN) who've written me back have said the same thing.
My dealer in Sterling, VA has started a waiting list.
Man, I got screwed :brentil: I had to put down a $500 deposit :banghead:
I've had a deposit placed since January, $1000. This was the only way for me get the number 1 spot for the Sky.
Deposit ammount is determined by the dealership you go to. Your dealership even has the right to change the ammount whenever they want to as well. Like I put $50 down for my Solstice well before the EOP program. The day of the EOP every person who came in had to pay $1000 to pre-order.
Early Registration - no deposit

I was the first person to pre-register at ny NJ dealer, and no deposit was necessary.
If i were to go put down a deposit, it would also be $500... but, I called my local dealer, and the guy said that he'll be getting a few cars in January... and I'm up in Canada, so it's gotta be slightly earlier for all the Americans here... oh, he also said that I'm also able to put down a $500 deposit on the Redline... :D

Do you mean he said they would be getting Sky's in Jan? If so please sprinkle a heavy dose of salt on that rumor before attempting to swallow it.
yeah, that's what he said... and he seemed pretty confident in his answer... I know, I had to ask him again, I was taken aback as well... he said they already have 5 being custom fitted for pre-orders, and the $500 is fully refundable upon test drive in JANUARY.
I am in western Canada & I placed a $500 deposit for a SKY. I am #5. My deposit is fully refundable upon a test drive too. The dealership knows that they will have no problem selling the car if I back out.

Yeah, drop an entire salt block on that rumor before trying to swallow it.
All this deposit talk is great. But if it's non-refundable then I get nervous. Sounds like most deposits here are refundable. I would never place a NR deposit on a car that's not out yet. No reviews? No test drives? Doing so is silly and dumb. The car could be a POS. But in all honesty, I hope the car is solid roadster. I really like the cars looks. The jury is still out on the fit, finish and ride. My purchase (if it happens) will be after the cars release and after I've had a chance to test it. Then I will start looking for a used Sky with under 10k on it. Let me know if you have one.. Also I will be searching Mallett and GM parts for all parts necessary for the badest roadster on the planet.. 5 lbs/HP Stay tuned.. well it might be a while. Late '06 perhaps..
I am from So California and my dealer said they are not taking any despoits. He put me on the Early order list without a deposit. He said they don't take deposits they just put you on the list.
I'm getting all the early order letters and I got the count down calendar. Lets hope they don't do what they did with the solstice..........
Hmm, I'm in Northern California and got the same treatment from my local Saturn dealer. I hope they don't screw things up when the time comes. [scrossing my fingers]
