Ok I need some advice here. I am looking for a set of ramps for the front of the car but I'm not real sure on what angle/length I need. My dad has a set of steel ramps that I can't even attempt to use because the front end hits long before the wheel does so unless I modify them they aren't going to work. Do any of you use ramps and if so, what brand/type/length or angle are they?

If your car has been lowered ramps are going to be no good for you... A good Jack and Floor Stands is your choice....
I'm about 3" off the ground and no ramp is going to help me.....

My car has not been lowered. I have a jack but no floor stands (yet) but for the few times I plan on getting it up in the air I was thinking a decent set of ramps would be so much easier than a floor jack.

JimVonBaden is correct. I also have the same set of Rhino ramps. The larger set is more expensive but the standard set will work. I purchased them from AAutoZone on sale for $29.99 and used them for installing the DDM backBone and the DDM Probeam. ALSO spend the @$7-9 and get the Wheel blocks for the opposite set of wheels. Safety first.

I also use the cheap ramps from Auto Zone. When climbing them from the front it looks like they'll scrape but if they do they don't damage anything. And they lift it high enough to get to everything underneath. I wouldn't use metal ramps.

I've got a pair of the steel ramps and had to use a pair of 2x10s as a pre-ramp, ramp.

Good-Luck!
:agree:

I bought the 12K models, at the time I had my H2 a couple of years ago..

However, the 8k will do just fine for any normal auto, esp our Sky...
It's what I use to change the oil... Cheaper at Advance Auto..

I bought these from Princess Auto for $49. They work well are lightweight and are rated to 12000 lbs. You can also get them at Canadian tire.

I use the plastic ones you can get at any auto parts store for about $40. Works front or back.

Jim, I'm looking at your last photo and wondering how you got the jackstand in place? If you just drove up the ramp and raised it (as it appears from the photo) I think this could be very dangerous. The jackstand should have the majority of the car's weight on it. If in your case it only has some weight it could easily topple over if the car starts to slip down the ramp for whatever reason.

Nah, I jacked it up and put the jackstand under the A-arm pivot. The ramp is used just to ensure the car doesn't want to tilt back since my driveway is slanted.

It wasn't necessary, but I always like backup.

Breathing life into this old thread. I don't have any floor stands, but I do have a set of steel ramps. Has anyone lifted the rear of the car with steel ramps? I need access to get the rear valance off and put a new one on...assuming it ever arrives. I'm worried about the front end scraping when the rear is lifted by the ramps.

This may sound trite, but it depends on the height of the ramps. I have had a set that would work, as well as a set that would be too tall.

Your best option may be to lift the back of the car with a jack, then slide the ramps under the rear tires to support the car.

You can also put the front tires on blocks, I use pieces of 2x12, to get the nose further off the ground before lifting the rear.

I agree with John as long as you "carefully" jack up under the lower control arm, yet have enough horizontal clearence between the jack and ramp to get the tire to sit on it properly.

Given the angular approach in the back of a Sky, I imagine backing up on the ramps would be safest and easiest. But I have not tried it myself to say for certain.

Lifting the rear of the car to replace the rear valence is not necessary. It can be removed and replaced quite easily with the car on the ground. Even by the elderly 😊
You will need a good plastic trim removal tool to spring the tabs on the stock valence loose.
They are stubborn at first but once started they get easier.
