Redline resale no Miles ?

If somebody was lucky enough to get one of the 1st redline lets say in the 100 range and lower. What would you say the car would bring on the open market.

Lets say chill pepper red will no miles and number 14 produced. Just was kind of wondering if the car would be a collecters car.

I just sold my sky on ebay for 4k over invoice with 2k miles..Black/black red interior, chrome wheels monsoon 6 cd....I sold it because I expecting my RL very soon...with that being said I would guess if you were one of the first RL to show up on ebay I think you could get 8-10K over sticker. I would not pay it, but there are many out there that would I am sure

The R/L is being sequenced along with the base Skys . Ernests' vin on Mayhem is in the 8000's so it will not be 0001, 0002, 0003, or so. Sorry ...besides the vins are in the 10,000's now.....Skip...

Maybe the car will still bring big bucks who knows. Also i meant the first few made not so much worried about the vin. Since the car will be very hard to come buy or a LONG wait for some.

The Solstice is also using the same vin sequence now as the Sky. So they are Kappa vins now all mixed in together.

Haya, hope you signed one of those agreements not to resell your car. I'm tired of seeing people get greedy and sell their cars on ebay. Everyone thinks thats great, but what happens, is one sucker out there pays way too much and every dealer out there, even GM makes the rest of us pay by cranking up what we have to pay. I've heard the excuses: "hey, if someone out there will pay it, it's fair!". Thats like holding a carrot in front of a donkey and saying it's fair as long as he wants to follow it... You can make all the excuses you want, but it's taking advantage of others. Part of what makes these cars worth so much is all the people with small budgets clammering for them, but not getting it. Eventually people will realize the game and stop clammering. I have. I have seen the Mini Cooper S, the 350Z, the Rx8, the Mazdaspeed Miata, the Mustang GT, and now the sky. It's like a lotto, many dreamers, and few winners. When a guy like me, with $25,XXX.XX burning a hole in my pocket can't get a $30K Sky RL after waiting over a year, and well before it was this popular, then something is way wrong. I am still first on the list and call the dealer every thursday. They have not received an allocation. Then they increase the price $500, then $1000 more? I wonder why? Certainly not because I said I would pay anthing more, I've been saving since the beginning hoping to be able to afford this thing. Most people here have a few months invested, I have been thinking about this for more then a year now....I may be angry if I had been waiting 2-3 months, but this stuff, after more then a year, makes me want to kick somebody in the crotch.:brentil:

I agree anyone buying a sky redline or base who turns right around and trys selling it on e-bay is a jerk Period Exclamation!

I also fully agree that there is no possible way I am going to pay more than MSRP for a new car, and refuse to pay full MSRP for a used car, and I sincerely hope anyone who goes out and buys a car just to drive it all summer and try and sell it on e-bay used after putting all the miles on it has a very difficult time getting anyone to buy it.

But from the other side I do hope when I spend my hard earned money on something that it will retain a fair value when or if come time to sell it used

To me the operable word in the last sentence is the word "fair" and what is happening right now on e-bay and at some dealerships is natural selection anyone paying more than MSRP for a new or used car is an idiot :jester:

To make a long story short i was attending a freinds wedding in the south of france last year. And i just happen to end up at a high stake poker table in some fancy casino and some of these players there had big money. They where telling storys of buying dresses for their wifes for like 6,000 to 7,000 and they would only wear the dress once.
So i figure
if there are people in this world with money not being a big issue.
They might spend the extra dollar. So maybe in the last few weeks or months some new buyers just became aware of this car they might pay the extra dollar to have this car now and not have to wait a year or 2. Maybe 50 grand or more is possible.

Why would you say that, 50 grand or more is a nice bank roll. Then just wait for next years model when the demand is not so high. Sometimes timing is everything !

Thank you.

I paid over MSRP for mine. I got it in May, and have put 6,000 miles on it. It has been a truly delightful and memorable summer. My $3,000 premium got me to the front of the line for the base SKY, and put me on my dealer's list for a top slot on my Red Line, too.

Let's see, the price has gone up $1,500 dollars on a base SKY since I paid my $3,000 premium... At the rate I bill my time as a consultant, I can earn the other half in less than two days... Days I could have spent searching around for a dealer somewhere and flying off to get my car instead of billing my time and driving my car along the beach in the evenings.

Gee, I guess I would have been better off to spend all summer in my pickup truck whining and complaining about my dealer on this forum and placing weekly phone calls begging for my car to come earlier...

I'll know better next time.

I would have gladly paid over MRSP if I didn't have to wait 18months for my car. I'm with you!!!!

Not me. I would never pay over MSRP. If you call around you will find one at MSRP in no time. I don't think 1 hour of my time and maybe a 2 hour drive to go get it is too much. Heck of a lot better then paying 3000 over MSRP. My opinion.

I agree with Rusty, if the sky is a carrot, that makes you the....I won't pay more then MSRP for my RL. My RL will last just as long as yours will...except you will have paid $3000 more for it and had to live through all the initial recalls. You may make the $1500 back because you make a lot of money, but after I get my RL, I'll still have the $1500 to burn on a vacation, or upgrades for the RL. Sometimes I think making more money doesn't mean you're smarter, often times, it just makes you less resourceful and pompous.

There's only 1 solution for the constant mark up on the kappa cars...
DON'T PAY IT!!!

I'm sure there are only a handful of people that would have no problem paying premium on a car like this. Once they have been satisified, GM/Dealerships will see demand has dropped, and the markups will fall off.

I just can't believe people will be openly screwed like this... :banghead:

Actually, my resourcefulness is a key factor that allows me to earn more money in the first place, which gives me the luxury of not having to be quite so resourceful when it comes time to spend it. I, for one, would rather spend my time earning more money versus trying to find ways to not spend it.

As for the MSRP, I always considered that an arbitrary number set by some GM egghead somewhere that I never met and never cared to meet. It has to be an arbitrary number - they keep changing it. As for me, I have my own "perceived value" of the car, and that was all that mattered to me. As long as I paid less for the car than I thought it was worth to have one in the garage as opposed to on a wait list somewhere, then I am a happy guy.

I am a happy guy. No smarter or dumber, or more or less pompous than the next average schmoe. Just happy.

Some people choose to spend their money on beer for the weekend, or a new sweater for the dog or to go to the movies and see a film on the big screen that is going to be broadcast for free on TV in a couple of years. You won't hear me criticizing their choices. More power to 'em.

I guess it just goes to show you that sometimes what makes perfect sense to you doesn't always apply to the rest of humanity.

Ain't freedom grand?

Maybe in the USA you can spend one hour on the phone and a two hour drive. But here in Canada i've been waiting 18 months and can't find one anywhere to even look at. I would have been happy to drive one day to get one. So paying a little over MSRP instead of waiting this long would have been fine with me. But instead I get to enjoy reading all about her on this forum. Which is a good thing, because I have learned lots about her while I patiently wait!
