Redline to get 6spd, performance specs... [rumor]

Looks like the sky redline will get a six speed transmission and dual exhaust to go along with the direct injection turbo 2.0L engine!

Specs on the Opel GT (sky redline rebadged) were released on Feb. 1 at the Geneva autoshow. Delivery of the Opel GT to European customers is targeted for spring 2007. Top speed is listed as 144 mph with 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds. I am definitely going to wait for a sky redline now!!!

Specs and pics at the links below.

I wish I could wait!
0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds? that would dust a honda S2000
The performance specs look close... but I am quite sure there's no 6 speed tranny for any of the Kappas at this time - that must have been an error.
I hope that it is not an error.

There is a six speed that is used in the cadillac CTS that would probably work well for the Sky Redline. I believe that the five speed in the Solstice (and now the base sky) is made by this same manufacturer and that it is basically the same transmission that is in the Colorado pick up.

Seems that it is not too much of a stretch to think that they could put a more performance geared transmission in the redline to go along with the higher performance engine. I mean look at all of the technology differences between the two engines, putting in a six speed should be no big deal.
1) Would a 6 speed even fit? Guess it would.
2) Will there be an automatic available for the redline?!

The GXP has a Hydra-Matic 5 Speed Auto, expect to see that and the Asian 5 Speed Manual on the Redline. The 6 Speed Tremec (sp?) doesn't fit in the Kappa architecture.

From the Mallet site on their Solstice LS2 upgrade page:

*************************************************
Available soon:

Turbocharger
6 Speed Tremac Transmission (with 3 different gear ratio options)
*************************************************

Even if the Tremac transmission does not fit, I wonder if the Aisin AY6 6spd found in the Cadillac CTS will fit the Kappa

If the report found on the auto moldova site is wrong, and the Sky Redline will get the Aisin 5 spd (like the Solstice GXP) I am considering taking some measurements and then going to a junk yard to measure the CTS transmission. As long as their is space, and the shifter can be located in the right place, this type of swap is usually not that bad. The hardest thing can be creating an adaptor plate for the belhousing to mount to the engine. In some applications you don't have room for the adaptor plate and have to make a belhousing from scratch. This still can be acomplished with basic fabrication skills.

Additionally the bolt pattern where the bellhousing bolts to the transmission main module for both the Aisin 5 and 6 spd looks the same.

This may allow the use of the stock sky bellhousing on the 6 speed as long as the CTS shifter would be located correctly.

Then start looking now. I confirmed it with my sources - only 5 speed manuals for all Kappas at this time.

Mallett can do things like fit trans and engines because he is not limited to the tolerances and clearances that OEM's are. He doesn't have to crash test structural changes, etc.

It's like a Pulte home vs. a custom built home. Most Pulte homes can be built in 2 months or less - but you have no choices in many of the options, or at least limited. Your floorplan is picked from a list of 3 or 6 plans, no alterations allowed.

A custom home may take 3 to 6 times as long to build - but you get exactly what you want... or can afford.
wow that's awesome. i wonder how much it's going to cost. i'd buy this car in a heart beat
Turbo

On the Sol Forum a supporting vender is devloping a turbo upgrade for the 2.4 they said its dino is 257+ and shows no strain on the 4 bolt main or other internal:willy: :willy: parts....?????:willy:

Not according to SI (GMs online FSM system)
While engine details of the 2007 Redline are available in SI, the transaxle data all seems to be strictly Aisin AR5
Hope it's wrong though! (but doubtful)

no big loss having just a 5 spd. when GM does a 6 spd trans it usually means just a second overdriven gear.

WopOnTour, do you work for GM or a dealer? Just curious since you seem to have access to SI.
I was just pumped that the 2007 Sky data became available in SI on Friday is all :D
BTW> anyone can purchase a subscription to SI through Helm

See, I did not know that... so did you purchase a subscription, work at a dealership or work for GM?

A little more info:
