Mark your calendar for September 8-10, 2006.

Whether it is the coastal views, the "Cork Screw" on the famous Mazda Laguna Seca Track, or the pure beauty of the hot rods, classic cars and motorcycles, Cherry's 2006 will provide a "Jaw-Dropping" good time. Toss in the great wine and food the Peninsula has to offer, plus the camaraderie with car and motorcycle folks and you have the makings of a great weekend.

Dubbed the biggest “oldies” party of the year, the 14th annual Cherry’s Jubilee is a family motorsport festival that takes place in many areas of the Monterey Peninsula as well as Mazda Laguna Seca Recreation Area and Raceway. Cherry’s Jubilee is presented by the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation to benefit the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Carmel Valley Lodge
Secluded, private, beautiful and a short traffic fee drive through the oak studded hills to Laguna Seca. Fireplace rooms range from $179 to $219. Large meeting room and only 31 rooms total. Five minute walk to a variety of restaurants in Carmel Valley. This hotel is right on the twisty driving route we have planned. G16 & Carmel Valley Rd. Otherwise we would have a long trek just to start are drive.

Let them know you are with the West Coast Kappa Car Club

Here is a generic West Coast Kappa Car Club registration form.
Solate will produce a cool flyer and post it on our website soon. www.wckcc.org

In the mean time you might want to get an early start. I know the rooms will fill up quick but hopefully you can find somewhere to stay in the event that our room block gets sold out. The whole Monterey and Salinas area gets filled up pretty quick with this event coming to town.

Itinerary

I am working on an itinerary for the Sept. Monterey/Laguna Seca Event. I am worried that some of you might think this event is a little pricey.
I know the rooms are a bit much, ($179-$219). There are other accommodations in the area. It is not essential that you stay at the Carmel Valley Lodge. I did put up $500 as a deposit so I will need to fill at least 10 of the 20 rooms blocked at group rates there. I do not think this would be a problem at all. We will be having our meeting at the Lodge Saturday evening. So if you do not stay at the Lodge, just meet us there Saturday evening.
The $83 for the Cherry's Jubilee covers your car entry into the special club area, two adult admissions, 1 T-shirt, 1 hat, $20 in coupons for.........
How about I just give you the list again:
Show’n Shine - Calle Principal Downtown Monterey and Laguna Seca
Poker Run Monterey, Salinas, Cannery Row, Pacific Grove, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach
Parade Laps – Famous Laguna Seca Track
Sock-hop & no-host BBQ dinner at Laguna Seca
Vendor Booths
Awards (judged and issued Saturday and Sunday-many more than previous years!
Two-2 –day adult passes for Laguna Seca
$20 worth of tokens to be used as cash at participating local businesses
Two entries to Sunday pancake breakfast
Four issues of the Monterey Herald newspaper with official Cherry’s Jubilee program, event program and local entertainment magazine
One official Cherry’s Jubilee T-shirt and hat, dash plaque & Goodie Bag
New family and kids’ activities

The BIGGEST thing to remember is that the money is going to a very worthy cause - Neonatal intensive care etc.

The Poker Run is going to be FRIDAY, so if you want to take part in that show up early!!!

The Show'n Shine in Downtown is in the evening and only for the old classic cars I think. Parking will be difficult. If you go to the Jubilee at Laguna Seca you will be able to see them up close and personal during the day without any parking hassles.

If you do not want to attend the Jubilee, I will try to plan the time for our drive so you can meet up with us as we leave for a time from the jubilee.
We might go to the jubilee first thing in the morning Saturday. We would hang out, checking out the classic cars and motor cycles, do some parade laps, check out the vendor booths, etc. We would either have lunch at the jubilee and then take off for an afternoon cruise and go for dinner together before the meeting. Another option would be to take off, meet for lunch, and then cruise. Some of us could go back to the jubilee for the evening BBQ and dance and then go to the meeting. Sunday some of us would go back to the jubilee for the pancake breakfast and then meet up for a drive. We could break up into groups. For those that are heading home going north we could plan a route. For those going south we also could have a few options, (Hwy 1 Big Sur :) ).

Anyway, just a thought. I am open to input and suggestions. The sooner I hear from you the sooner we can print itinerary options.

This should prove to be an amazing event. This is a central location with easy access from all directions. With all the Sky owners getting their cars and the Sol owners out there I expect a great turnout.

Join/Register amount?

I have had a few questions regarding registering for the event and joining the West Coast Kappa Car Club. I hope this brief explaination helps.

It is $10 per person, (Non-member) and $5 per WCKCC member to register for an event. This covers costs, (meeting room rent, etc.) The membership to the West Coast Kappa Car Club is $20 a year, (not per person but for the whole household). The dues are $5 per quarter. If you join before June 30th, (1st quarter April 1st - June 30th) it is $20 for the year. If you WAIT until July 1st, it is $15 for the remainder of the year, (the last 3 quarters).

I hope this helps.

P.S. If you are registering for the Cherry's Jubilee festivities at Laguna Seca you will need to download and send in your registration directly to them. The WCKCC is not responsible for accepting those registration fees and forwarding to them. The registration fee for the Jubilee is $83 per car, which includes 2 adult entrys and a lot of other stuff.

Make your hotel reservations, (stating you are with the WCKCC for group discount), directly with the Carmel Valley Lodge, (or hotel of your choice).

Cherry's Jubilee Festivities

This is NOT OUR itinerary. The attached document is the schedule of events that the Cherry's Jubilee committee has planned. Should be a great time.

Stay tuned for OUR itinerary. We will plan our club cruises for Saturday and Sunday at times that will not conflict with special event scheduled at Laguna Seca.

Please comment !

Carmel Valley Lodge

If a couple couples want to share a 2 bedroom cottage with a fireplace and large living room the cost is $345, ($172.50 each). This is less than the $179 standard room and much nicer. You might even sublet the living room couch to help cover the costs.

Room reservations

Crimson Avenger said:
I did reserve a room, and the staff is very friendly on the phone.

There are still some of the less expensive rooms available, but they WILL sell out because we're there on a very popular weekend.
:agree:
They were going to return my $500 deposit, (out of my pocket) on July 8th and release the unreserved rooms from our block to the general public. I told them to please retain my deposit past the July 8 release date to hold the rooms a little longer. I am sure all our 20 rooms will easily be reserved by us. I am not worried that I will not get my deposit back. What I am worried about is that you will wait until the last minute. I WOULD like my deposit back sooner than later. If you are planning to reserve your room please make the effort in the near future.
THANK YOU for your consideration! :)

Avatar Honors Event

I changed my avatar in honor of the event. The picture is of my Saturn entering turn 8a of the corkscrew at Laguna Seca... The other cars are up at the top of the cork screw, in turn 8....

For posterity, I've attached the avatar and the track map.

Cost & Accommodations options

Obviously, we would like to fill our room block at the Carmel Valley Lodge and not lose our $500 deposit. It is important to our members that we give them affordable options to encourage attendance.

Laguna Seca does provide camping facilities. For camping reservations, call 1-831-755-4899.

Salinas; The Laurel Inn Motel http://www.laurelinnmotel.com/home.htm Finest in Salinas and an amazing rate. Salinas is about the same distance from Laguna Seca as Monterey. They might honor the $59 a night rate they quoted the club. Hard to beat.

We would love for you to take part in the festivities going on at the Cherry's Jubilee. Again, you have an option. If you do not want to pay the $83 for car registration and two adult entries, (incl. free goodies), you can just pay the admission fee of $8 and just walk over and join us in the pit.

You can join up with us on our club cruise at a designated location and time if you do not want to attend the Jubilee.

What I am trying to say is, come! We would like this to be a well-attended event. You have options, so do not let the cost of the full package scare you off.

We look forward to seeing you there.

I guess it is time to challenge the Central and Northern Cali Sky owners. :D
I was very impressed with the So Cal Sky turnout for the PCH run. There were a bunch of cars that showed up.
I guess the So Cal Sky owners ROCK!
They like to pull the covers off of their cars, put the tops down and cruise with a bunch of other Kappa enthusiasts.
Come on guys, where are you? This event should be a blast. You do not need to join the WCKCC to participate, you do not need to attend the Cherry's Jubilee, you do not need to stay over night. You can just show up for our Saturday afternoon cruise through the twisty desrted back country roads of Carmel Valley.

Still time to sign up

We are getting a good response and the registrations are coming in. There is still time to sign up. All the information is on the thread except were we are going to meet up with the Kappa owners who are not going to attend the Cherry's Jubilee but still want to go for the back country drive and dinner. I also need to make the dinner plans. We will announce these two items shortly. PM me if you need more information.
Hope to see you there.

This was posted on the Solstice Forum by a member named Chance It would be great to have a strong contingent of Skys representin.

I am really looking forward to going to Monterey! It is one of my favorite spots. Saturday should be a great day...the Jubilee, a drive, some dinner, and then a club meeting. I think we are even electing new/more officers? (those interested can self nominate )

Don't forget you don't have to attend the Jubilee to enjoy the day with us. But if you do want to see the cars, not just ours but the rest of what the Jubilee has to offer, admission is only $8. And I think the Laurel Inn still has rooms at $59 a night. Not a bad deal.

Then Sunday, you could head south down Hwy 1, or do 17 mile drive, or head north up Hwy 1 towards Half Moon Bay (hint hint) and stop at a brew pub along the way . So many choices....

Hope to see ya there!!

Ininerary WCKCC Monterey Sept. 8-10

Everything is optional, (except the drive/cruise –ya gotta join us for that)

Sept 8th / Friday evening: Show’n Shine - Calle Principal Downtown Monterey and Laguna Seca

Sept. 9th / Saturday: Meet in the parking lot of the Carmel Valley Lodge http://www.valleylodge.com/map.htm approximately 8:30 AM. We will caravan over to Laguna Seca Raceway for the Cherry’s Jubilee at 9:00 AM.
REMEMBER, you do NOT need to pay the full Jubilee registration package fee. It only costs $8 admission. The Jubilee Package includes an event T-shirt, hat, dash plaque, goody bag, discount coupons, pit pass, pancake breakfast, and parade laps; @ $83 per car = (two adult admissions). You can pay this at the door if you do not pre-register with them, but it might be a little more. Keep in mind the worthy charity your fee is supporting. http://www.cherrysjubilee.org/registration_sports.html

After enjoying the festivities, (Antique car show, Bike show, Live Music, Vendor booths, Hot Laps in Porsche race cars, Parade laps in our cars, etc.), we will have lunch there at the Jubilee. There are a variety of food booths to choose from. We will be leaving the Jubilee approximately 1:30 to 1:45. We will meet up with other Solstice and Sky owners who did not attend the Jubilee but still want to party, in the parking lot entrance to Toro Regional Park east of the Raceway heading toward Hwy 101 on the right side of Hwy 68 @ 2:00 PM.

We will start our cruise through the deserted backcountry roads between 2:00 – 2:15. Private Message me for my Cell Number. Who knows, you could be running late and might want us to wait for you.

Leaving Toro Regional Park, we will head east on Hwy 68 a short while to River Road, (G17) heading south. We will meet up with Carmel Valley Road, (G16) heading West. We will take these tight twisties all the way to Carmel by the Sea. We will parade our cars through Carmel, turning around at the beach, coming back through Carmel and catching Hwy 1 South to Big Sur. Some might want head North and take the famous 17 mile drive past Pebble Beach (at $8/car), but if you would like to join us for dinner, we are booked at the Big Sur Roadhouse Restaurant @ 5:30 PM.
Here is the URL: http://bigsurroadhouse.com

We should hit the road again around 7:00 PM, heading North on Hwy 1. We will turn East on Carmel Valley Road rendezvousing at the Carmel Valley Lodge for our meeting which starts at 8:00 PM.
http://www.valleylodge.com/map.htm

Sept.10th / Sunday: Many will head back to the Jubilee for the Pancake Breakfast. Others will do Breakfast on their own. I hope to meet back at the Carmel Valley Lodge parking lot around 10:30 to caravan home South down Hwy 1. Others might want to caravan North up Hwy 1, or take Hwy 68 to Hwy 101 for a speedy return home.

Any questions please PM me.

If you have not sent in your registration, form please do so. Here is the link to the form, http://westcoast.kappacarclub.org/publications/forms/WCKCC_member_app_v5c.pdf
You can also find the form on our website under “future event.” http://www.wckcc.org
We will have forms available at the event if you can not turn yours in in time.

Please visit this thread for more details. http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5509
There are still many rooms available in the area at reasonable rate.

We look forward to seeing you.

Crimson Avenger posted this on the Solstice sforum

The drive on Saturday sounds like a lot of fun.

I'll actually be up there on Wednesday night, because I'll be out on Laguna Seca Thursday with Checkered Flag Racing. It's a racing club in the Bay area that runs Laguna Seca, Thunder Hill, and Sears Point Infineon.

The track is wonderful, challenging, and an all day grin fest. I last drove Laguna Seca about a year ago on Labor Day--Beautiful weather, a bit warm in the afternoon, but perfect driving conditions.

Believe me, you'll have a great time on the parade laps. Even though you won't be going as fast as when we're running flat out on Thursday , the pace car will lead you around at a good clip, and you'll feel like you're driving off the edge of the cliff as you make turn 8 at the top of the cork screw and head down to turn 8a. (Here's a link to the track map: http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/a...5&d=1151565291)

I'll probably also take part in the Poker run on Friday, if I'm not too tired from the day at the track on Thursday.

Oh, as part of the team lead by Sal working on this event, I got us some reservations down in Big Sur for dinner Saturday night, so our drive will now also take us down a beautiful stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway where the road is hung from the side of the cliff, swooping and diving as it hugs the rocky coast.

We will be down there a bit before sunset, for dinner, and we might catch the Sunset at 6:24 PM on our way back up (depending on how long dinner takes).

There's also a couple of beautiful bridges on that segment.

The folks on Sal's event coordination team have put in some serious thought and work getting this event together, and I'm sure we'll have a great time.

Be sure to send Sal your registration forms!
