Santana Cupholder-----Additional Support Needed?

I'm about to install the Santana Cupholder in the Sky, and being the "engineering/mechanic type of person, a question has come to mind....

First, an observation.....I found the YT videos (that I watched,) about cupholder removal to be incorrect.
All the videos instruct removal by pushing in on the aft side of the cupholder, rotating it around about 90 degrees, and then pulling it out.......but you cannot push it in when the upper cupholder plate is screwed into a bracket to the right of the shifter, and you must remove the screw first.

Now the question.....
It would seem to me that fastening the cupholder into the side of the plastic console with just some sheet metal screws may be inadequate, and putting a full soda can, water bottle or 20 oz. Yeti Rambler,( as with my wife,) would put undue stress on the plastic all around the cupholder, considering that the factory installation had an additional support.

That being the case, has anybody been concerned about this, installed some kind of plate to distribute the load around the cupholder using screws and nuts instead of sheet metal screws to distribute the load, or found a way to use the bracket to the right of the shifter?

TIA

The instructions you referenced were for the earlier model cupholder that did not have the retaining screw, or any way to install it, and the Santana was designed for that application. The failures of the OE cupholders had little or nothing to do with the way it was held into the car, and no one has ever reported problems in that area.

Thanks John.
The OEM cupholder, with or without that additional fastening capability (my car is an 09,) is still a POS.
What do you think of me using a tiny "L" bracket and using a machine screw and nut at the pivot point of the Santana cupholder, and fastening a little cable or strip of metal to the additional bracket next to the shifter for more support?
I have mever had a Santana cupholder to look at - my '07's is still fully functional - but my thought is that anything "tiny" isn't going to be stiff enough to do any good.
Put my Santana in over winter. Seems solid to me. Been using it for the last month with 14oz bottles. Never heard anything before to be an issue.
Had my Santana in for at least 12 years. Just used the little screws and it's still solid. Don't think you need to re(over)engineer it.

I bought one recently to install as well, but had the same concerns and have yet to install it >.>
It just seems like it should need more support than that - I agree.

After my install, I'll post pictures of what I do....

Follow the instructions and do not deviate....and u will be happy. Do not try a larger drill bit.
