Saw the new SOLSTICE at a cruise in Michigan

don't get me wrong it is nice, BUT the SKY will look even better! I had to see the solstice to get an Idea what my car (THE SKY) will ook like. The dealer had a red and a silver one. While I was there I sat in it and put the rag top up and down (Very EASY). Next to me was this young kid (no more than 24 years old) he said he runs a web site and was reviewing the car. He got to take it for a test ride, but couldn't get out of 1st gear! After busting his chops a few times, (he said it had been a while since he drove a stick) he took off, he "tweaked" them in first through third down the street. When he got back he was suprised by the pick-up and he thought the ride was great!

This visit with the SOLSTICE has pumped me up, I know the SKY will look better and heads were turning all the way down the cruise!

sooooooooooooo! give us the dirty details. how did it sound? how was the fit, the feel. how did it look with the top up. was it comfy? c'mon, c'mon.....i'm drooling over here..... :willy: need....input....fading fast....can't.....move....gotta....have.......in...fo........arrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh FALLIN...TO...PIECES :brentil: .................................... OH "SKY" MY SWEET MYSTERY OF LIFE, AT LAST I'VE FOUND YOU!!!!!!!! (OR AT LEAST IN THE SPRING I WILL HAVE) :D :D :D
NO Pictures?
Sorry guys, No pictures. It was very nice, but again, I can't wait to see the SKY. I was drooling for a digital camera, but I kept thinking we could go to the "other" cars forum and get all the pictures we want. I will tell you there was PLENTY of leg room...I had to move the seat up to reach the pedals...I'm only 5-10 185 lbs, but there was tons of room for a big dude!

The rag top came off with ease, and could be put up with one hand if needed! I was thrilled by the look inside the car it didn't look cheesy, looked "tight".

While I was there a guy who worked on the car (plastics) pointed out some "problems" they had with the car, the rear double cup holders were in a place that would be very difficult to get to and they also had a single cup holder on the middle counsel next to the passenger's side, he said it was very flimsy and would probably break off.....Not 10 second later we went to the next solstice and that cup holder was already broken off! He said it would be different for the sky...they are trying to fix that already!

Sorry I could not give you pictures, but I dont feel it would do it justice...it looked great and every person that walked by that car was in awe!

We already have reports for the Solstice that the material used to make the side cup holder has been altered from what was on all the test/pre-production cars. They are using a much stronger composit now isntead of cheap plastic.

But the design and location are going to be the same yes? I only ask because the one between the seats does not look as if it will be the most convenient to use.
Ist of all, I sat and tried it....not gona work! Unless you have the automatic and you are flexible. You have to sit and try this... the cup will be next to your right shoulder (about 3 inches out) so you have to reach with your left arm over your right shoulder...screw the cup holders...I'm not drinking a thing in that car!!! :banghead:

he made it sound like they would be different? I don't know where else they could stick them. By the way...the guy that has the picture of a full size golf bag in that trunk...must have some good software! That picture has to be false..I couldn't see fitting anything in that trunk, especially when the top was down! I couldn't get my fist between the opening and the rag top...Again...who cares, I'm not getting this to go on vacation with!
Vacation with disposible clothing.

Well, since this will be my everyday car, I do care if I can fit a set of golf clubs somewhere. The passenger seat is fine with me. I know I will have to make some accomodations for the roadster.

That will work out fine, and if it starts to rain you can just rech into the bag for the umbrella!

Actually you can fit two soft Sunday gold bags in the trunk with the top up and one with the top down easily. If you actually see the roof in action you can understand why. The roof overhangs a large empty space in the trunk, it doesn't fill the entire thing when down.

I respect you as the moderator, but I do know how thw soft top works, I opened and closed it several times. When you say "it overhangs a large empty area"...That is NOT LARGE. I'm telling you...that picture of the golf clubs, have to be a child/woman set, There is no way that soft top would close over any "normal" golf bag/with full set of woods and then you have to shut the 'Trunk"...NO WAY! And where did you find that soft bag..it must be 6 inches wide? Both cars I saw at the dealership could not have fit these products in there at all.

If you don't want to believe me that's fine. I'll just bust out Solsticeman's new image from the Solstice Forum when the users and cars mags fit two of that exact bag above with a mens set of clubs in the trunk. It's not a hard bag with a full set, no ones ever said it was or that one would fit. However people have seen soft sunday golf bags like that with mens clubs in them at the various ride and drive events and the oregon long leed press event for the media. When mags come out next month from the event I'm betting they'll have images too.

Even Lutz told people on 8/5 at the Solstice VIN 001 delivery party that there were two soft-side golf bags in the trunk when they showed the cars to the press in Portland Oregon.

BRENTIL, Did you see the first review? They said the only way you could get a golf bag in that trunk was if you cut them up into small pieces...Not that it matters, but I told you so...

I think it depends on the bag. Golf bags do range in size you know. A small one probably fits, one of those super large ones probably does not. The point is, are you realistically going to take a passenger in this car when you golf?

Yeah, well that was the Star's review, and reading the entire article just seems like they wanted to write a negative review from the start.

Autoweek on the other hand who I'd personally rather read for a car review, stated exactly what I listed above. Two soft sunday golf bags fit with the roof down.

The Boston area Solstice Ride and Drive demonstrated a full set of clubs (I didn't count 'em) with the top down. There was still a little more room. Didn't need to saw them in pieces either. (however, I did that years ago when I stopped playing in frustration)

 There were a few things that McKenzie was way off on in that article.

Having seen both one and two sets of clubs IN A SOLSTICE, WITH THE TOP DOWN, personally, I honestly can't figure out why McKenzie would even write something like that.
