I think in November is when Motor Trend releases car of the year. Solstice was up for it last year.

Do you think the Sky (and Redline) have a shot to take it this year? Admittedly the sky isnt a perfect car, but when was the last time a single car stoked the fires of a dormant brand like the Sky has? Looks awesome, proced right, turns heads, pulls people into showrooms...

I haven't looked to see who the competition is this year, but I think the Sky has a very good shot!

Was looking at spending 50-60 grand for Vette...but was looking around for other possible choices because I just didn't feel comfortable dumping that much of my retirement "toy" fund into the car. The Sky (especially the Redline) drew me into a Saturn dealership for the first time in my lifetime. After researching for months... finally found something that really got my juices running and at a reasonable price. Sky would certainly get my vote... Can hardly wait for Redline to arrive...:willy: :willy:

I too agree that if they looked at the Sky, it would end up being the RL..

Having said this, it all depends if GM can get it in their hands and the press fast enough...

It may not make it in time this year.

I was wondering about that myself...

The info posted with MT 2005 said "For cars going on sale through 2006", which means to me the car doesnt even need to be available to general public yet! (or maybe I mis-read?)

Jus' my ol' opinion, but I doubt it has a chance. It may get some words about styling, but being a roadster and having the limited trunk space and lack of an unlock button and and and and....

Don't get me wrong, I love the platform, and I really like the SKY and Solstice and especially the turbo versions of them, but considering competition, I just think that there are too many little niggling details that would prevent it from getting the MT car of the year.

Knock me over with a feather if it does, though...

If the Boring @ss Honda Civic Can,.. than Anythings Possible. That car lacks so much Luster, I would sell one if I was given it for free.

Wow, interesting... with foreign cars seemingly always leading in Quality and innovativeness.. I am surprised at how american cars (the traditional badges) have dominated the Car of the year. Although last 3 of 4 have not been

And if the PT Cruiser can get on there in 2001... the public's infatuation with the styling of a car can make it a great contender. The SKY with better looks to most and definintely better handling then the PT was & is, should be the choice.

Possibly though, they will do something they haven't done in a LONG time and choose a whole car brand... this time choosing Saturn as a whole

Consumer reports is a joke of an organization. To give an example when i was in high school and college i worked for maytag as one of my jobs. They tested 2 dishwashers, 1 was electronic keypad and the other was push button style. The digital one got rated "best" for sound. The push button got rated "poor". Funny thing is, both units had 100% exactly the same body structure, insulation thickness and motor. Consumer reports is all based off the opinions of the tester. Me, i like to make my own opinion, not refer to somone elses. Just my 2 cents.

Not that I agreed with the CR review I was just showing how some reviews are so vastly different from others. I personally research everything to death so I am a fully informed buyer. A few things that you have to consider are bias and buyers remorse. People tend to protect the brands they select many times for no good reason. Secondly, after making a large purchase people are reluctant to offer a poor review because they don't want to admit that they made a mistake or should have researched better prior to buying. I read through all of the posts and try to look at trends for problems or things owners wish would be different with the car to get a general sense of true rating of the car. For the Sky I've seen many first year model issues that you expect and a few design issues that culd be improved on but overall the sense I get from all of the posters is that that those little things pale by far to the joy of owning and driving this hot little number.
