Well, the experience is about to begin. In a couple of days I will be picking up my SKY (Same color combo as on cover of Road & Track) and driving it home; a total of 1,815 miles. :driving: By the time I arrive home in Florida I will have traveled through 12 states from Maine to Florida and hopefully taken a lot of “Kodak Moment” photos. I plan to share them, assuming the weather and camera doesn’t let me down. I’ll be driving from the coast of Maine (Ski Hi land), through Western New England, Eastern Pa, the Shenandoah Valley and then North and South Carolina before I take the coastal route through Georgia and Florida. I wonder how many SKYs I will see. :) I plan to keep count as well as colors. Is anybody willing to venture a guess? Check the poll. Deadline is Tuesday 5/9 at 12:01 am EDST.
It should be an interesting tour.

If you are coming thru coastal Connecticut, I would be happy to provide a little escort part of the way. At least you know that you'll see at least one.
PM me, I am serious if we can work it out.

Roadtrip

Luke,
Sounds great. Are you going to drive any portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway on your trip? That looks like a road that the Sky would love!

It depends on how far I make it Day 1. I could pick it up where it comes close to I-81 and take it to I-77. It's an option. :driving:
I've also got to pick up a copy of Road & Track to see my SKY on the cover.

The chances of you seeing any outside of others from this site I believe are slim, but you'll prob. pick up 1 or 2 people from here if you can keep them updated on your location. I know if you where coming through my town with the new ride I'd treat you to a beer and a burger or something as you came through.

The Trip is complete. :driving: After 1,817 miles the SKY has landed and is safely in the barn. I have a lot of information to report but I will leave it up to you to ask because it would take up too much room here. All I can say is that if I had a dollar for every vehicle that would pull aside and gawk, I would have made money on this trip.
I have info on fuel economy, gas prices, performance, annoyances, the good, the bad (there is none) and a lot of other trivia.

Luke - what's your general opinion in terms of Pro's and Con's with the car? It sounds like gas mileage is below 20 at first...? Basically what did you not expect about the car?

Thanks

Very impressed. I have fuel economy statistics by day. Overall I got 30.2 mpg for the 1800 miles. That is based on actual fuel that I purchased. The fuel stats from the on board computer were very close at 29.4 mpg. I monitored everything daily. I also had to drive through some nasty weather and the SKY passed that test also.
I do not have many cons to report. Mostly pros. PM me for details.

I think you're wrong about taking up too much room here. I can't speak for others but I would think many here would love to hear all about your trip including all of the stats.

OK SKY Fans. Here is a report on my 1817 mile journey. :driving:
I would like to report that it was smooth despite some nasty good weather. I managed to drive through a couple hundred miles of rain in SC and GA. This gave my SKY a good leak test because some of the rain was of the very heavy variety. Glad to report not a drop and the car handled very well. Most of the trip was with the top up due to weather.
I find some of the complaints people have voiced on the forum werer not a problem with me. The top is very easy to raise and lower. About the only awkward thing I found was the location of the power window buttons, especially for the driver. I also found I had to stretch to the limit to pick up a toll ticket at an automated booth. Also could not find a good place to keep coins for tolls. If you are traveling I suggest small soft luggage. The hard variety is a bit difficult to fit in the trunk unless it’s real small. My small hard case did fit in the trunk but did not with the top down. I managed to set it on the passenger floor. I found just about everything else tip top. I even got to use my OnStar phone while traveling. Sounds real good in the car but I was told it sounded a bit tunneled on the receiving end when driving. The sound on the receiving end is much better when stopped. It worked great and I plan to use it. :yesnod: The wheel rub issue had been taken care of by the dealer before I picked up my vehicle. I have nothing but good things to say.
If you have any specific questions just PM me. I would be glad to answer.
If I had a dollar for every vehicle that would pull aside and gawk, I would have made money on this trip. When I stopped to fuel up or eat it was even worse. "What is it?" or "I like it!" or "Wow!"
Other Trip Stats:

I will have photos in a day or so. I have a few but need to get more with the top "down". Needless to say with the bad weather my photos will be from home. PA and VA were cold, NC, SC and GA wet and FL HOT! The temperatures ranged from 42 (VA) to 92 (FL). I went from heater to AC in one day.

Zippo, Zilch! I thought I would see at least one.
I did see 2 Sols - one red and one black. Ironically one was about 75 miles from where I left from and the other about 100 miles before arriving home. Another irony. The one up north had the top down (as I did) 75 degrees and sunny, while the one in FL had the top up (as I did) 92 degrees and hot.

Finally a few shots of my new SKY taken at home. I hope for a few more this weekend at the Gulf of Mexico. Actually only 3 miles from home. Notice the photo with top up has the front bracket (now removed in other photos).
