Sky Tops

I was looking at some of the pics posted on the Solstice Forum of the Solstice with it's top up.

Is it just me or does it look like the convertible top doesn't fit very well....especially towards the back?

I hope the SKY's fits a lot better than the Solstice.

Until I see one (top up) in person I can't pass judgement.

Same top as the Solstice, and yes they do have some wrinkles in the wings (depending on the weather conditions). The only issue is an appearance one.
Top Up

I sat in a Solstice and was able to put the top up and down about two months ago. The top fit very nicely and look fine. You can't raise or lower from inside car because of the 'wings' that fit in the fitting on the back clamshell, but what the heck,

BTW, the Sky will be on display at Saturn of Palm Beach tomorrow and Wednesday. I am going to see my first "real" Sky tomorrow. If I can steal the wife's camera, I'll get some pictures, but I am expecting the silver one that has been making the rounds, so my pics would be redundant.
I've seen the Solstice in person. The roof isn't bad but they need to do some more work. It wasn't quite ready for release.

Unless, of course, they let you sit in it. Ask!

I'd just like to see one close and personal...My dealer has no idea if or when there will be one on display. There are 5 or 6 dealers within 50 miles or so. Maybe I should call around...Yeah, that's it.

I'd love a removable hardtop. I hope there will be one available in the aftermarket area.
Possible Leak Problems

I had the opportunity to test drive a privately owned Solstice (same top as the Sky) that was for sale. It was parked pointing slightly down hill and it had previously rained. Water was puddled between the deck humps and the rear view window. While it did not leak, the possibilities were obvious. The seller had to back the car around to let the water drain off before he could open the deck. Some water seeped into the trunk anyway. There is a feable drain pouch inside the trunk under the rear window to catch water and drain it away. The design looks like an after thought. However, I personally don't care. This car will be my garage queen to be driven top down on sunny days. If I'm caught in the rain, I will definitely park it on a grade with the nose up! PS: I loved the way the Solstice handled. A real winner.

Most owners on solsticeforum have said that the top eventually relaxes and the wrinkles observed on the back of the top lessen or go away. A lot of the pictures on that forum will show the tops as being smooth once they have had time to relax.
We'll have to see about how well the top fits once they become available. Besides mine will only be a "weekend" car. It will be parked in a garaged when not in use and driven on clear, warm, sunny days with the top down or course!

Plus, the aftermarket will provide for a hardtop option pretty soon, if SEMA was any indication!

I asked to sit in it. Heck, they had a six foot barrier. It's better looking in person, but not being able to sit in it, play with the top, really check it out; it wasn't much.
