Stock radio button issue

483 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Ciphertec
Hi, all, I own a 2008 red line and it has a stock radio and the stock radio has worked fine for years and now all of a sudden I go to use it and the cd/aux switch keeps activating by itself flipping from auxiliary to cd to radio that happens constantly now and I will be looking on the forum for a new stock radio to see if anybody has one for sale, but I was wondering if anybody had had this issue and if they know a fix.
Thank you so much.

You can try taking the radio out and the faceplate off, then clean the button membranes/switches. I know taking out the radio is much more of a pain in the Sky than the Solstice - you'll have to search taking the dash apart for that. But ater that, taking the faceplate off and apart is not too bad. See pics:

Thank you - if anyone knows of a stock sky radio for sale please link it here- I can only find posts from'2008 -2016 selling stock radios
I see stock radios on eBay occasionally but i think that if i was going to pull my Sky dash apart like that, i would upgrade the radio to something more modern.
Here you go. There are a number of sellers of recycled radios online. Prices vairy so do your homework. Know that the radio when first installed in a particular car uploads the VIN and the security system will not let it function unless it sees that same VIN when it is turned on. When installing a previously used radio, it will need to be reset. This can be done with a Tech 2, a tech 2 clone or any GM dealer should be able to do it for you.

This site sells refurbished radios which should come UNLOCKED and ready for install

These are used radios that will likely require unlocking before they can link to your VIN

Try finding a Saturn or Pontiac radio which includes a USB port....they are a hard find but worth it.

I really don't Need a usb port - I use a blue tooth receiver that plugs into the aux port or I play cds - I don't listen to mainstream radio / I really just want the stock monsoon radio to work properly- just need that six/cd switch to stay put when I select cd or aux - but it keeps flipping between aux/ cd and the godforsaken "radio" :/

thanks though I'll keep looking.I can't find any stock radios at all :/
If you don't want to try fixing the button yourself, then get a matching used radio and just swap the entire faceplate. It's just a coupla screws and some clips, very easy. Then you won't have to unlock the used radio for your car like @Rob the Elder said. Again, see the thread I posted.

Thank you - trying to find a matching radio - swapping just the face plate means not disassembling the dash/console?

anyone know the member who sells parts from wrecked cars? He may have a radio that matches my 08 monsoon radio. Thank you all so so much !

That would be @Hoosier GXP

You can also try RedLine AutoParts in Florida.

If the faceplate is easily removable maybe it's best for me to do what Rob has said which is to try to clean the button contacts first - if the console doesn't have to come apart to get the face plate off that seem like the least invasive and if that doesn't work then buying a twin and swapping the faceplate would be the next move.
Again I thank all of you for your endless help and advice :)

This forum is so great - SO much nicer than the DeLorean forums, which is why when I have an issue with the DeLorean I tend to just figure it out myself or read the forums and not ask questions- many of the Delorean owners are "keyboard warriors" and aren't friendly at all.
No, you have to remove the radio, no matter what you do (fix or replace), and to remove the radio you need to remove the dash/console pieces around it. Sorry.

Oh, and my name's not Rob ;)

Yes - sorry - Rob was the one who showed some radios for sale
I just upgraded the radio in my 2009 Sky Redline and I have the stock monsoon radio, 28000k miles for $150 + shipping.
