Test drove the dealer's SKY Today!

Just got back from a test drive of the dealer's SKY demo car from Saturn of Bowie in Maryland. Scheduled an appoint for test drive once I was emailed that it was in (3-13-06). It was a great day for a test drive...partly sunny and 85 deg... with the top down. All I can say is it's been worth the wait to finally get to SIT in a SKY AND DRIVE IT!!! :willy: I was very please with the handling and over all apperance of the car.
Now just have to wait (patiently) for the 4th image to arrive so I can actually place my order! :banghead:

Congrats!!! I'm so jealous!!! My dealer told me on Friday that they were getting their's today but it was not delivered. I just called for an update and they think it will be tomorrow or Wednesday!!

But..... We need more details!! How'd you like the layout? What color was the car? Did they let you floor it a few times? Did you try the top out? Close the hood with the door half open (heh, heh).

They have a Black Onyx Sky with Premium Trim, Chrome wheels (really nice) Six disc CD/MP3, XM Satellite, and LSD. I believe it totaled around $26-27K. I drove it about 8 miles on back roads with a lot curves and hills. The car handled beautifully, felt very sturdy on the turns, and hugged the corners. I didn't get floor it on the open road, but I sure wanted too! At a few of the four way stops, other cars were looking in awe and let me go ahead of them as they stared enviously at me driving by with a big ol smile

I really like the dash layout...all the controls are easily marked and easy to get to. I'm curious how to see how the dash looks at night. Looks like it might have an amber back light.

There was an cigarette lighter to the lower right of the stereo. I was thinking of getting the cradle for my Ipod (there was one mentioned in another thread. PM and I'll send the link) which connect straight into it and then it can easily plug into the AUX connection so the IPOD plays through the car's speakers.

I closed/opened the top (easy to do) and the top fit snugly. Didn't notice the obviously wrinkles in the top like in earlier pictures. I really think the car looked great with all the chrome trim. It'll look great in any color....I'm getting Midnight Blue.

FYI....the seats are low and roomy (I'm 5'11" - 32" inseams, 230lbs) While seated and the windows rolled down, I couldn't hang my elbow on the door's top edges while driving comfortably like I can in other cars (no big deal). Also you can't get a good view behind you without with using your rear view and side mirrors. Which had me thinking if I got the rear spoiler I was wondering if it would obstruct my view in the rear view mirror....the dealer said it wouldn't, but I think it might since we sit low....JMHO.

All in all it's GREAT roadster!!!

Future,

I drove the same SKY. It was absolutely wonderful. I was highly impressed. On top of that, I just got a call from my dealer saying I can go in and order tomorrow because the 2 ahead of me want an automatic. I am number 4 at my dealer but am being bumped to #2. It was beautiful day for a test drive and thanks for not wrecking it before I got there! I have pics of the car but not one of me sitting in the car.

Since we didn't keep the first image as a demo, I don't see a test drive in my future for quite a long time...

I am so so jealous...been waiting a year for this machine and the anticipatory anxiety is now here....called my dealer and we r next to Delaware..he does not know where their car is....anyone see a car carrier with a flat on I-95North? Not laughing any longer...:lol:

When I talked to my dealer Saturn of Fishers (Indy) last week, he had recieved 3 images on Feb 27th and 4 images on March 6th. They were expecting to get their demo on March 13th or 14th. He called me tonight and said that the demo did not arrive today but the good news was he recieved an image for my Sky and sent it in and the factory accepted the order. I was very suprised since I was 14th on the list. He didn't recieve a TPW but would call me next week with more info. Looks like the factory is moving right along.

THAT - IS - SO - COOL!!!!

I, for one (of about 1,000+ on this forum) am so jealous, I could cry! I told my dealer that I am painfully waiting for my car, and that the closer it gets, the worse it hurts. I'm just keeping it real. I make one call a week to him and told him that we need to consider me pregnant, in labor and about to give birth to a car.... ha ha

I'm thrilled with your feedback and it only makes me more excited. Thanks for the great and descriptive post!

Thanks for the report.
How was the transmission?
Std or auto?
Was there any clunk from 1st to 2nd?

Skywatcher...that was a good question...we r all excited about our children that we forgot about the transmission....at least one person remains rational..

Here are a few pics of the car w/ employees and some other customers. Notice that the GM "bubble" badge is on the lower door panel. I asked the dealer about this because I thought this was going to go away when the prototypes vanished. The dealer states that this will be on every car.

Over on the Sol forum they show how to remove it with some patience, wd-40, lotsa heat, and fishing line.
