The same guys who basically said there was no contest between the MX-5 and the Solstice, Mazda is still a champ... :lol:


You can "expect" a six-speed. Just don't be surprised if it never shows up. Besides, if the engine they are speculating upon really has as much power, the 6-speed is really not needed if they have a large enough working band (RPM difference between peak torque and peak horsepower). Adding in another gear just tends to cause you to stir up the gearbox.

There is a 2.0L ecotec. It's the supercharged one in the Cobalt SS Superhcarged and ION Redline. Right now there is a battle between a 2.4L Turbo and a 2.0L Turbo on the internet.

That part is actually more believable then the 6-speed tranny at least. The normal 2.2L ECOTEC was altered to be 2.0L when they made the Supercharged LSJ version for the Cobalt SS/ION RL. I'd expect the Turbocharged version to also either be 2.0L or 2.2L to get the compression ratio down low enough to boost it to the power levels they're talking about. Also I'd expect 2.0L over 2.2L because then they can reuse a lot of the parts that went into the Supercharged LSJ but just add whatever other updates they want. Unfortunately we've heard zip about this engine officially. We don't even know if it'll have VVT or not. As far as we know it's just an LSJ with a Turbocharger added on instead of a Supercharger, or it might be some entirely new engine too. As I've mentioned I'm hoping GM throws us a bone at SEMA05 but I don't really expect anything till NAIAS06.
